When Declan, Ma, and I had finally made it to our appartment, Ma excused herself and started her long drive home. I felt bad for not inviting her to stay the night but something was telling me Delcan had plans that I didn't feel comfortable with his mom overhearing. There was also nowhere for her to sleep. We were renting a small one bedroom, one bathroom appartment. It also had a small living room attached to the kitchen. In the kitchen there was a small closet where there was a washer and dryer with the dryer stacked on top of the washer. There was no room in the closet for anything else, and I had intentions on keeping it that way.
The floors were all hard wood and there was a stove, a television, and a counter, a microwave, sink and dishwasher with cabnets are all empty, but no couch or even a bed. I felt more comfortable knowing nobody else had slept in my bed, but it was a pain in the ass to know that we'd be fitting a bed up the 7 flights of stairs, and through the front door, along with the bedroom door. For our first night together, Declan had opened the box he'd packed of his blankets and spread a few of them across the hard wood floor in the bedroom. It wasn't the best bed in the world, but staying the night in Declan's arms for the first time, ever, was well worth it. Even though we didn't have a bed, the love we'd made was special, and the night of sleep that had followed was one of the best nights I'd ever imagined possible.
Declan and I had been in an on and off relationship since I was a freshman. I was still fourteen when I'd met him, because I was one of the youngest in my class. In fact, I'm still seventeen, and wont be eighteen for another two months, but the court papers that go into detail about my aunt and uncle's guardianship claims the guardianship ends when I graduate or when I turn eighteen. Whichever occurs first. Due to this, I am not able to go home to my mother because of her inability to devorce her child molesting husband, so I am legally on my own - or, with Declan.
One of the lonliest things in the world is going to bed with company, and waking up and expecting them to be there, only reaching out to get a faceful of blankets. Where did Declan go?
Streaching and twisting up into all the blankets I could gather, my mouth had decided to let out one of my inner pornstar moans as my muscles tensed and relaxed. Wrapping the blankets around me, I'd gotten up and went in search for my Declan. Yes, he's my Declan. Walking through the door, I heard one of Declan's snorts and looked over to see him giving me his oh-so-adorable, amused look.
"Good morning, Sleeping Beauty." He smiled.
"I thought you left me." I pouted, and he walked over to me and leaned in for a kiss. I locked eyes with him but dodged his kiss, smilin softly to myself. It was his turn to pout until I explained, "morning breath."
Chuckling to himself, he kissed my cheek instead. "Boo, why would I leave you?" He smiled when he saw my eyes light up at his name for me.
"Well I don't know. But it was really lonely waking up without you." I said softly. Looking around I finally realized he'd made bacon. Slipping out of his grip, I bouced over to the plate sitting on the counter. "Where'd you get bacon?" I asked, knowing that we didn't bring any food with us. I'd planned on going shopping this morning and stopping for breakfast along the way. After a while of devouring my delicious bacon, I turned around noticing he still hadn't answered me. When I turned around he was just looking at me with that amazing smile on his face.
Declan isn't the guy you'd picture in movies. He wasn't 6'9" with shaggy blonde hair and deep ocean blue eyes. In fact, He was 6'7", melato, with curly brown hair and big brown cow eyes. He didn't have a six pack. Instead he had an amazing sugar coating that I loved very much. His teeth weren't perfectly straight, and were actually quite crooked. I loved everything about him though, and in reality he was perfect just the way he was. I didn't want that typical perfect guy.
"Babe?" I stepped closer and waved my hand in his face, still putting bacon into my mouth. "You there?" I smiled.
"You left me for bacon." He faked hurt, and I stuck my tongue out at him. He leaned in close to me and whispered, "didn't anyone ever tell you? You're supposed to keep your mouth closed when you're eating." He teased causing me to shove more bacon into my mouth and open my mouth as wide as I could, chewed up bacon resting on my tongue.
"Sorry," I said sarcastically. "I find my bacon mouth sexy. Don't you?"
"Very." He chuckled, "minus the bacon part."
"Hey, you never answered me. Where'd you get bacon?"
"I got some this morning. You were sleeping and I wanted food so I bought bacon."
"Did you buy anything else?" I questioned, and he walked into the kitchen, showing me what he'd been doing before I came out of the bedroom. I saw red roses. I didn' t know if fthere was a dozen, but he'd been cutting off the ends, and breaking the ends that were still attached to the roses so the water would be able to go through them.
"You got me roses?" I could feel my face turning red and a smile made a home on my face.
"No." He said flatly, and my smile was swiped away. "Babe, I'm kidding. Who else would they be for?" He chuckled, and kissed me. Leaning into him, I smiled against his lips. When he pulled away and rested his forehead against mine I whispered, "so, how's my bacon mouth now?"
He chuckled. "I should've known better. You can't ever have a serious moment, can you?" He said with amusement in his eyes.
Tilting my head like I was thinking I said, "Nope." and bounced back to the counter to return to my delightful bacon. Again, yes, it's my bacon.
Within an hour later, I was walking in the grocery store hand in hand with Declan. I was getting strawberries when I thought I saw something wrong with the small carton in my hands. There was something growing on the strawberry. I went to put it back when Declan asked what was wrong. "There's something growing on the strawberry. I can't really see it, though." I said as I put it down, grabbing another container.
"No." He took the carton of strawberries out of my arms and traded for the one I'd just had. Well, what the hell? There's something on the strawberry. What's the big deal? I thought to myself. He came back and opened the container. Now that the label was out of the way, I could see that nothing was growing on the strawberry. Something had been placed on the strawberry. He took the small sparkley ring off of the container and put the strawberries into the cart. When he was getting down on one knee, I'd realized what was going on. I didn't bring my hands up to my face and cry. I didn't hit him, I just stood there. I looked stupid, but shock had me frozen in place. "Macie Ann, I know this is a little soon, and I know that you're not going to be 18 for another two months, but I want you to know that I love you. I wan't you to know that you are the girl I want for the rest of my life." He looked back down at the ring, then brought those gorgeous brown eyes back up to mine. "I know you'll be going away after college, and that's why I want you to give me the honor of calling you my wife before we get that far. I want you in my life for forever, and I know that the Army will take us away from each other for a few years. In those years, I promise to be a faithful husband, as long as you give me the privledge of sharing my life, my heart, and my last name with you. I love you, Macie. Will you marry me?"
Silence. Nothing would come out of my throat around this ginormous lump. People were looking at us, and gawking at how cute it was. The cashier was snapping a picture just as common sense hit me in the face, and started nodding vigorusly. He jumped up, and placed the sticky ring around my finger, and spun me around in a hug.
I was engaged.
But I was promised to the army, and my time was running out faster day by day. There were still years before I had to go, but I knew that leaving would be the hardest thing I'd ever have to do in my whole life.
