Chapter Three

My eyes fluttered open, everything was pretty light and seemed foggy for some reason. After my eyed adjusted, I realized I was outside. I was leaning against a cherry tree, and the sky was full of long clouds. They looked almost like the strokes of a paint brush. Pale, rosy petals drifted past my eyes and the sun was so bright I could see little dust particles floating through the rays. 'Where am I?' I asked myself. I stood up, trying to brush off the grass from my legs and leaving green stains. I was on a small hill, covered in petals and vivid green grass. I realized that I hadn't even noticed there was nothing but the hill and the tree. The hill wasn't in a field, there were no other trees around. You see, the hill itself was floating. The clouds weren't just above me, some were beside me too. I could see the bright blue sky under me. I tried to walk over to the edge of the hill so I could see if there was something holding it up, but when I got to the side the mound started tilting. My weight caused it to lean to one side, petals started whipping around and flying off the hill. I ran back to the tree, genuinely terrified of plummeting to my death, obviously. But when I got to the tree, it started tilting the other way, so not knowing what to do I inched back to the other side, trying to even it out. But again, it just started tilting the other way. I wanted not to move, but if I didn't the hill would turn too far and I would fall to God knows where. Alas every time I moved the swings got more and more violent. Soon, I was hanging onto the cherry tree with everything I had as the mound spun over itself at over a hundred miles. The petals were being mercilessly ripped off the tree, sucked into rotation with the block of dirt. I couldn't hardly open my eyes without the rapid wind filling them dirt and dust, but when I could I couldn't see anything but blurry flashing anyway. I was so confused, so scared. I knew this had to have been a dream, but I still didn't let go even if it meant I could wake up. My fingers dug into the tree, and I could feel the bark piercing the skin beneath my nails. My brain felt like it was moving inside my head, every time the hill spun again my brain tilted to one side of my head with it. At this point, I wasn't even thinking. All my head knew how to do was hold on. And then I couldn't anymore. Guess I could do that either. I was shot to the side, then I plummeted downward until a cloud harder than rocks broke my fall, and red was all I saw.
