He still hasn't changed, she thought.
God how she missed that beautiful face and waking up from it every morning. If someone can hear her heartbeat now, it would be too loud in this small room. How she wanted to bury her face on his neck as she used too. But that was in the past. It can't be repeated.
For once, she wanted to stay here for a while. She has a reason to.
He's with his friends and laughing from a joke he made. One of the things she loved about him: his sense of humor. His friend, Jongdae nudged him when he saw Taeyeon looking at him absentmindedly.
And when he looked at her, that was when she found herself freezing on the spot. He smiled. That mere action from him surprised her. Who wouldn't be shocked that your own ex smiled at you unless you're in good terms? Not her to be exact. Her eyes met his, she watched as his friends waved to her. Like they did before when he was hers.
She was the reason they broke off anyway. If it wasn't her doubting herself in their relationship, it would've gone to this point that she is suffering from her consequences. It was her fault. He was too good for her, she felt like she didn't deserve it.
It was like darkness without warmth, he was the warmth.
There was a warm feeling she felt when he looked at her, it wasn't suffocating, this time. She politely returned the smile to him, and he nodded. It did not take long until someone hugged him from the back, Jieun, she recalls.
"I heard your ex, has found a new one already. Remember Jieun? The one we met at the music class before? Yeah, I saw her posting their photo on Instagram. They look happy.", her friend Tiffany says while eating at her apartment. Hearing it, her heart clenched, it can't be. She paused and stared at her bitterly. It's as if her world, that was once in the palm of her hands taken away.
"It's what he deserves.", Taeyeon answered.
She looks prettier and younger, she thought. Probably better than me.
Baekhyun hugged her back and pecked her in the cheek. There it goes, he's no longer hers anymore. He's someone else's. Her lips cracked in a small sad smile. She tried to swallow the aching pain she felt at that moment, hand gripping at her coat, her phone slipped away causing a sudden noise to be heard.
Summoning her courage, she bowed for the accident she made. "It's okay everyone, my phone is okay!", collecting herself she tried to lighten up the awkward atmosphere she caused. She heard a few giggles, and now everything is back to the way it was. Stifling.
Taeyeon took a deep breath, they look happy, she wished to be like that too.
Just then, Baekhyun walked to where she was sitting. Wearing the blinding smile she hasn't seen for long. "It's been a while, how are you Tae?". Oh god, not that name again. She flashed a bittersweet smile at him. "Still the same, worthless," she responded.
He felt a stab on the chest, this wasn't the same woman he loved before. He scanned her face, eyes weary and empty, she looked broken. Her lips were forced. Her face didn't reflect the radiant beauty she has. "Why?", he asked in an audible whisper.
"Well...", she sighed. "Thank you and I'm sorry for breaking your heart. It was my fault, I didn't deserve your love." Baekhyun saw the evident change of emotion in her face, eyes that were full of life displayed none.
"You finally found your happiness you've been looking for. I hope I find mine too." , Taeyeon paused when she heard footsteps leaving. She glanced at Baekhyun who already went to Jieun's side before hearing those words. It was too late.
"I hope you find yours soon.", He mouthed a silent farewell before turning back. Her breath hitched, eyes welling up from the number of tears. And when she looked at him for the last time, he's already gone.
Thank you for coming into my life, you found your home and it wasn't mine.
