chapter 5; The Message
"You got me caught in a daze
I love it when you say my name real slow"Sugar
"So what happened? What did Meg say?" My words rush out as soon as we settled into Cole's car.
Meg never came back with Cole after the talk so I'm guessing it didn't go so well. Harry and Louis left as soon as they got their food. So Cole and I ate by ourselves. We didn't talk much. Cole's mood instantly changed, I was unfamiliar with this Cole.
"I don't even want to talk about it, to be honest with you," Cole sighs. "She gets my on nerves."
"Oh. . ."
The drive back to my house was dead silent. I felt like Cole definitely wanted to be left alone so that's what I gave him, his space. It was no doubt that when Cole and Meg were together they had a lot of problems. But somehow they find ways to gasp through it and stay together. Pushing my strong feelings for Cole aside, I was genuinely concerned about him.
"See you tomorrow S," Cole muttered as he stopped in front of my house. "I'm really sorry, I just don't feel like talking right now. You understand right?"
"Of course," I give him a smile. "Text me if anything yeah?"
Cole nods sending me away. I carelessly unlock my front door to find both of my parents gone.
Working overtime today. Leftovers in the fridge.
Love you,
Mom & DadI toss the piece of paper in the trash bin and stumble my way to the kitchen. I pull the handle on my fridge open to discover lasagna and pizza none of which sounded appealing after the lunch I had with Cole. So I let go of the handle so the fridge door would seal shut and walk to my room.
It was homework time. I loathe homework time. No one likes it, really.
I really thought it was impossible for me to finish my calc homework but I guess it was not. Well, despite the fact I guessed on 1/2 of them, but I think I did pretty good considering I was partly asleep during class time. But I deserve a well-needed little snack.
I make my way to the kitchen and open the pantry full of snacks. From varieties of chips to cookies to sorts of candies. Yes, my family loves snacking. My mom insisted on calling it the Blessing Cabinet. We have more snacks than actual food because both of my parents are always busy. It was one of the things that I did not mind.
I look at the clock to find that it was only 7:30 PM. That meant I've been doing homework for merely 3 hours. No wonder why my brain felt like it was fried. Instead of snacking, I microwaved the leftover pizza and went on my phone.
I'm not the social media type of person but I still chose to have it so I can be somewhat updated to the rest of the world. Meg never texted me back yet I still see her posting and tweeting. I wouldn't blame her. I was sort of glad she didn't talk to me earlier today because I hate confrontation. I wouldn't know what to do. Cole hasn't texted me either. I frowned, depicting if I should be the one checking up on him first or should I just wait until tomorrow to see him.
-Unknown Message-
(###)-###-####: Is this it?
*Image attached*I open to see the image. It was my gold bracelet dangling from a man's hand, Harry's hand I presumed. I couldn't help but stare at the defined structure of his hand.
Me: Yes, thank you so much!
I decided not to save his number since we're only going to barely text.
(###)-###-####: you're very welcome. Where would you like to meet?
I contemplate what to reply back because I wasn't sure if it was a good idea to meet him somewhere outside of school. I know that he's not technically my teacher but I still felt weird. And what if people from school sees me and Harry together? Wouldn't they get the wrong idea? I should stop worrying so much about others.
(###)-###-####: I'm free this weekend and Friday.
Me: I'll let you know when I'm free.
(###)-###-####: Sure thing.
I turn my phone off with the thoughts of a way to get my bracelet without making things awkward.
I just feel so awkward and extra conscious around Harry. His presence made me so nervous. Whenever he's around, I feel his eyes blazing at me. I'm still unsure if it was a good or bad thing yet. One thing I was sure of is that Harry Styles is the most attractive man I've ever seen.
Before I can turn on my laptop, my phone starts ringing. The Caller ID flashes with Mom across my phone's screen and I immediately pick up.
"Hello?" I answer.
"Hi, darling. Can you please come outside and help us carry some stuff?" Her voice muffles as I hear her opening the car door. Didn't they say that they were working overtime?
"Okay." I push the laptop that was on my lap on the bed and quickly jump out of bed and follow the pathway that leads me to the front door. I unlock the door and stepped outside to see an unfamiliar car parked in the driveaway next to my parent's car.
"You guys brought a second car?" I asked, I wasn't wearing any shoes so the pavement was quite cold.
"Surprise!" My dad cheers as he steps forward pulling me into a hug. "We know it's long overdue but this is your birthday present."
"But you guys already got me a present. . ." I say. "Are you guys joking?"
"No, honey." My mom chuckles, handing the keys of the grey Toyota to me. "It's all yours."
"I- What. How?" I spit out, a loss for words.
"You know Terry? Uncle Tom's son is moving away for San Francisco. So he asked if we wanted to buy it off him. It was a fair price." She says before unlocking the car.
"Are you joking?" I ask again.
"You can take care of the insurance and any of the car supplies you want but we're not taking your savings. You're in college now. It's about time you start driving yourself don't you think?" My dad questions. "Want to go for a test drive?"
I viciously nod my head. I feel so spoiled. I've been taking the bus throughout my high school years and partly during college. It was either that or Meg and Cole would pick me up. I'm thankful that I no longer need to rely on them.
After driving around, my dad and I decided to finally go home. It was getting way too dark and my dad was getting way too hungry. He gets cranky when he's hungry. I parked into our driveway and turned the engine off. I was oddly excited to decorate the inside interior of my car.
We found my mom microwaving the leftovers as she sits on the dinner table. Her eyes were attached to the white screen.
"I'm going to shower. Eat first." He says then soon disappears into his room.
"What do you want honey? Lasagna or pizza?" My mom finally sets her phone down.
"I already microwaved pizza. Thank you though."
A sudden buzz from my phone got me off guard. I barely get texts from people, besides Meg but she hasn't replied to me ever since. . .
(###)-###-####: I forgot to tell you this but you looked quite good today. Have a goodnight, Sugar.
. . .
"2am, and I'm still breathing
Staring at my thoughts floating up to the ceiling"
