Narrow escape

BEEEEEEPPPP BEEEEPPPP BEEP BEEP BEEP.

Sucking in a breath I sit up, mind blank. Cold drafts graze my legs, cuffs hold me down onto the metallic table. IV lines pierce my skin, machines screech in protest. Looking up, a skylight bruises the celling, grey light streams in bleaching the blank room. On a small mushroom-like table, sits an eye turning key. Gleaming back at me the key asks me, begs me to pick it up. In obligation, I reach for the steel object. Managing to grasp it, I scour a breath in glee. Pulling my worn body up into a sitting position I viciously stab at the keyhole of the cuffs. Click. Crumbling the cuffs fall to the ground, my legs are free. It takes effort to rise to my feet, muscles stretch, bones click. My feet collect with the jagged concrete that plasters the floor. A barred door lies lifelessly in front of me, imprisoned by a large padlock. I sweep the drafty room for any escape routes, the open, gaping skylight catches my eye. I step onto the table and pull myself through the small hole in the ceiling.

Blasts of cold wind smash my delicate face. Shouts follow the sound of a door opening. Looking down into the room below a man stands holding a large, sharp katana. With a large smile, he looks up at me, bearing his deathly white teeth.

A shiver runs down my spine, as my feet start up the engines of my body, pulling me into full flight mode.

I run through the white, cold, windy blast of nothing. Body sweating, bargaining with empty thoughts that cram my mind. Closing my eyes for a second, my legs give in to the chilling strikes of air. Falling to the ground I sink through the icy ground like boiling hot water.

Neon light blares through my eyelids, shading my eyes with my hand I glance at my newfound surroundings. Stained glass windows surround me bursting with every coloured light imaginable. Wearily, I wonder, worriedly, watching wonders work in front of me. Cautiously I grant myself the courage to stand on the flaky glass. A window pain shatters behind me, through it the man with the katana appears wearing the same grin as before. Stepping backwards I stumble, this just increases the man's smile. He creeps closer. I hold my hands up ready for the impact of hard steel, it never comes. I look back at the man, still grinning he slams his sword into the glass. Shattering colours fly in all direction. The floor that I once stood on has gone I fall indefinitely down, down down.

My body collects with a surface of bark, rock and dirt. Trees loom, arrogantly over me. Teasing me. My leg drip with crimson coloured blood. As if a bird the man flies down majestically. Still caring the large weapon. I jump to my feet in frustration and anxiety. I begin to run, but the ground doesn't move. Like a continuous cycle. He walks closer and closer drawing his katana closer. Looking into my eyes he whispers one word.

'Goodbye,'  His bitter breath consumed my lungs.

He was a monster.

"Shqueee" I lay in my bed, my room surrounds me. Beads of sweat roll off my forehead.

Just a bad dream, and a Narrow escape.
