"Rogelio... You're cheating on me?" I heard my mom asked, with tears flowing down her cheeks. She looked like she was about to break down. Nagpipigil siyang sumigaw ng hikbi.
Cheating? Daddy cheated on Mom? Why?
"What? No, Honey. I didn't-" before Daddy could finish his sentence, Mom interrupted.
Why did he cheat?
"Wag kang magsinungaling! Your lies won't work this time." galit na galit na sigaw ni Mom kay Daddy.
I stood here, remained unmoved. Watching them in a very good hiding spot and didn't have plans to let them find out. Hindi ko inaasahan na ito ang bubungad sa akin. All I knew was I only wanted to do something here but they barged in suddenly. So I had to hide quickly before they caught me.
I had to find my phone that my Dad confiscated last week. When he confiscated it, wala akong magawa. I got bored, so I decided to just look for it. Pero imbes ang cellphone ang nahanap ko, I found something different.
Both of them Fighting.
Mom and Dad rarely fight with each other. They're both matured and disciplined parents. But seeing what I'm looking right now, It seems I overestimated them.
"I... I-I'm Sorry." utal na sabi ni Dad. He looked defeated. As if, he couldn't deny what he heard.
Can sorry bring back loyalty and faithfulness?
Obviously, no. Does loyalty and Faithfulness even last forever to a man? I thought my Dad had it. Pero people are not always what they seem.
"I can't believe you! How could you do this?!" Galit na sabi ni Mom and sobbed. Pilit naman siyang yakapin ni Daddy, pero she's pushing him away.
"Get away from me! Your disgusting!" Nandidiri na sabi ni Mom kay Daddy and was about to walk away but he grabbed her wrist and faced her.
"B-Bitawan mo ako!" Pilit na tinatanggal ni Mom ang pagkakahawak ni Daddy sa kanya pero he's too strong.
"Look, I promise I won't do it again. J-Just please, don't leave me." Pagmamakaawa ni Daddy kay Mom. His voice broke, regret and guilt was evident.
I don't even know what to react. Kung magagalit ba ako o hindi. The common thing to do would get mad at your father for having an affair with another woman.
But I can't relate so I don't really know what to say.
"I don't love you anymore, after what you did." sabi ni Mom with coldness in her voice.
"Look, I cheated on you because you were too busy with work to be with me. I needed you but you pushed me away!" Pagliwanang ni Daddy kay Mom.
Is that enough for a reason to cheat?
I don't get it. Why cheat?
"That's a stupid reason for you to cheat." galit na sabi ni Mom at tuluyan ng nabawi ang kamay galing kay Daddy.
"I-I don't want to be with you anymore. Let's divorce." seryosong sabi ni Mom.
Can I even handle having a broken family?
"W-What? N-No, I won't allow you. Don't do this to me, please." Pagmamakaawa uli ni Daddy kay Mom. He held her hand again
"I know you will eventually. So please, let go of me-" Daddy kissed her. Mommy pushed him away. She slapped him in the cheek.
"Please, Divina! Give me one last chance! Think about us! Our family! The kids!" Daddy started chanting every reason he can give to Mom.
I don't get Dad. He cheated pero he regret what he did. Didn't he think before he cheated of what the consequences may happen if he did?
What's the point of "Think before you go."?
"For the sake of our kids, then. I won't divorce you. But don't think that I still love you." Mariin na sabi ni Mom at lumabas ng kwarto. After she left, Dad cried.
"I fucked up." sabi niya at sinuntok ang pader. He injured his knuckles pero hindi niya iyon pinansin. He just continued to punch the wall in rage.
Days passed, Ako lang ang nakaalam sa nangyari kay Mom at Dad. My Sisters didn't know what happened. Pero they seemed to be worried about Mom and Dad because they're too distant to each other.
Mommy changed after that night. She barely speaks to Dad. She barely comes home early. She barely hangs out with us anymore. Until One night, Dad had a talk with Mom.
But this time, It wasn't Mom who was Mad. It was Dad who got mad this time. He looked uneasy.
"D-Divina, who were you with last night?" he stuttered, saying those words to Mom.
What is this again? This is Déjà vu.
"A colleague." simple at maikling sagot ni Mom. She looked calm unlike Dad, who looked tense.
"Really? Don't you lie to me." Galit na sabi ni Dad.
"Yes, Is that all you wanna talk? Okay, good night-" Dad cut her words.
"I know he's not just a colleague! I caught you two! L-Last night you... Fuck..." His voice broke.
By seeing the situation, I think I already know what happened. Rather, What Mom did that made him upset.
"How could you cheat on me?" naiiyak na sabi ni Dad kay Mom.
I can't blame Mom. He cheated first. Pero dahil ba nagtaksil si Dad, gagawin mo rin yun pabalik?
"I told you, I don't love you anymore. I needed someone else. Someone who is faithful and loyal." sabay diin ng dalawang salita na 'faithful' at 'loyal'. Para bang pinapatamaan niya si Daddy sa kasalanan niyang nagawa.
Hindi umimik si Daddy at nanatiling tahimik na nakatitig sa kanya. But the look in his eyes, looked sad and angry. Hindi siya pinansin ni Mom at naglakad paalis.
Time flies so fast and days became shorter. Mom had an affair with another man pero walang kaalam-alam sina Ate, I was the only one who knew. Daddy was devastated and broken. Halos araw-araw siyang lasing at hindi umuuwi.
The happy Relationship in our family, broke.
"Y-You're what?" Naabutan ko si Mom at Daddy sa living room. This time, they weren't talking in private. Pero ngayon, andito sila Ate.
What happened this time?
"I-I'm pregnant." Naluluhang sabi ni Mom. This time, she didn't look angry or upset with Dad. Hindi umimik si Daddy sa sinabi ni Mom.
"M-Mom is pregnant?" Ate asked. She looked happy and suprised. But little did they know, what lies beneath.
A mistake, followed by another mistake.
"H-Hey... Please talk..." But Dad looked away at her. I thought Dad was about to walk away or get angry at Mom pero what happened next shocked me.
"I...I know that I'm not the father. But I'm willing to be the father of your child. Just please, come back to me. Love me again." Daddy said to Mom. Suminghap sina Ate sa nadinig kay Dad.
At this moment, Our relationship as a family depends on what will Mom say. Will she accept or not?
"I... I'm sorry if I also cheated on you. Let's start again." Sabi ni Mom at niyakap si Daddy.
I hope that this will not happen again. Or so I thought it wouldn't.
