Chapter 4
My smile’s glued on my face for the next day. Its there when I sleep and it’s the first thing I do when I wake up. My cheeks hurt so I try to stop; but I can’t. I, Joli, Emma
Watts, like some one. Its early morning, about eight. Ok not that early, but still, the suns low in the sky and the date on my white board is yesterday’s. I hear high heels clicking from down the hall. I turn my head towards the door; “Rebecca?” I call. No reply. “Rebecca! Is that you?” I shout. Again no reply. The clicking stops, right in front of my door. “Hello?” I call. The door swings open. I don’t say anything I just stair. A women walks in; her designer sunglasses go above her eyebrows and well below her eyes. I already know who she is; her high blonde pony-tale and all black outfit tell me, Gigi. She doesn’t look at me just stride across the room and into the uncomfortable multi-coloured chairs beside me. She just sits there for a moment in perfect posture, her eyes fixed on something at the other end of the room.
“Hi” I say under my breath. She inhales threw her nose. Her head turns to face me.
“Hello” she says barley moving her moving her face.
“I'm sorry, for kicking you out before, I don’t know if they told you-”
“You have memory loss,” she finishes for me.
“Ya” I say.
“I know, and I accept your apology”
“Did you get in much trouble?” I say making what I think is eye contact, I can’t tell threw her sunglasses.
“No. Just, got a bit embarrassed.” She says. She takes off her sunglasses and places them on her head. “So! What’s going on with you? What have I missed?”
Should I tell her about Axel? Yes! I really do! Oh, God I want to tell somebody! I want to tell him!
“Gigi?” I ask. She smiles a bit.
“Yes?”
“Are we, friends?” I ask.
“Well, professionally I am your PA, but, yes id say we are, friends” she says smiling warmly.
“Ok so can I tell you…personal, things?” I say looking away. Her face is still but her eyes look worried. Oh, shit! She thinks I mean like, gross, things! I look at her face; her lips are pushed together in a sharp line and her hands are in fists on her knees.
“Um…yes…yes, I suppose that’s, alright,” she says.
“Nothing, like, gross!” I assure her. Her body relaxes a little. She acts like she already knew, but I can see she’s relieved. “I, think. I…” wait. Maybe I shouldn’t. “Um…never mind, I…forgot,” I say awkwardly.
“Ok” she says a bit confused.
“So!” I say changing the subject. “What’s going on with, you?” I ask warmly.
“Well,” she says. “I, got my nails done,” she says quickly flashing me with beautiful bedazzled French manicure. “And, well I had a few days off, so I went to the spa,” she says showing a little smile. “And…that’s, a, about, it!”
“Cool” I say giving a thumbs up. Did I just give a thumbs up? Please tell me I didn’t. Maybe I didn’t. No I know I did. Crap.
“Hey, uh, can I ask you something?” I say acting all girl friends like.
“Sure.” She says sounding very professional. Ok just do it!
“ Do you think my doctors cute?” I say all at once.
