"Axl! Bianca! Come say goodbye to me and mommy!" Axl and Bianca's dad Mark yelled from downstairs.
"Coming daddy!" Called Bianca from the room she and her brother shared. "Come on Axl!" She jumped down from her bed and violently swung the door open.
"I heard you!" Axl responded, he slipped out of his bed and threw his book on the bed before sprinting downstairs alongside his sister.
When they got downstairs, they saw their father in a black tuxedo and a purple bow tie. Their mother Liz was in a baby blue dress, her dress went up to her kneecap. Then there were two people Axl and Bianca hadn't seen before. A man and a woman. The man had a navy blue shirt on, and he had bleached white jeans. The woman had a hot pink shirt and a green skirt with a light pink floral pattern.
"Who are-" Axl was cut short by his mom.
"These are your babysitters." Said Mom.
"Babysitters?" Asked Bianca. She made a shocked face that looked like someone had just punched her.
"Only for the night." Mom retorted.
"Hello kids, I'm Tessa Shepard." She gestured to the man. "This is my brother Vincent." The girl pushed back her dirty blonde hair and held out her hand to Bianca. She cringed in response.
"Bianca Gallagher! Be polite and shake your babysitter's hand for goodness sake!" Mom upbraided. Bianca groaned and shook Tessa's hand.
Vincent put his hand out, Axl raised an eyebrow, but he shook his hand anyway.
"Well, you'll like them," Dad looked at his black watch. "We need to go. Bye." Axl and Bianca's dad and mom kissed them on the cheek and hastily dashed off. Tessa turned to face the children and grinned. The kids stared expectantly at her, as if they knew something she didn't.
"So," Spoke Tessa, trying to find a way to connect with the siblings, "What do you usually do now?"
"It's six o'clock so we make dinner," Bianca answered flatly.
"We'll take you. Come on." Axl led them to the kitchen as if they were the adults in the house.
An hour later, the four ate the homemade pot roast that Tessa and Vincent made (well, it was really Tessa who made it since Vincent just joked around the whole time).
Axl glared at Bianca, she chewed her pot roast for a long time and swallowed. After that, she continued to peck at her food.
"So, does it taste good?" Inquired Tessa.
"If vomit tastes good." Replied Vincent as she smirked down at his plate.
"Vincent, don't start with me!" Tessa bellowed.
"I was only joking!" Vincent snapped back. His sister shook her head and grunted.
Meanwhile, Axl's fork bounced under the table with a clank, as he bent down to pick up his fork from under the table he started to feel like feathers were tickling him, then his foot fell asleep. Axl frowned at the feeling of pins and needles in his foot. The thick tablecloths made it pitch black. Except for his white amulet, which for some reason was, glowing? He found his fork with the faint light and got up.
"Bianca? What's up with your necklace?" Asked Vincent as he looked up from wiping his spoon with his shirt. Axl was just shocked and confused as him, though his response of merely a shrug of the shoulders would seem otherwise.
"First of all, it's an amulet and Second of all-." Bianca's voice faded as she looked at her amulet, it flickered at first, then slowly became aglow in the same subtle way as her brother's.
