I basically turn into an orphan and drown.

Beep! Beep! Bee-

I slam my hand down on my bedside clock, still half-asleep and deeply annoyed at being awoken from my peaceful slumber, buried under my mounds of blankets which protected me from the quickly-coming winter and salty air from the beach near where I lived.

I immediately scrunched up my noise at the scent of sea salt, which burned my nostrils and made me feel slightly nauseous. Usually, I'd happily turn to my window and breathe in the sweet smell of saltwater, but after what had happened, I had a feeling I wouldn't be liking the sea salt scent soon enough. Just the thought of me not waking up happily to see the sea made me feel as though my dad was still at my bedside, scolding me from not embracing the smell of family in a sarcastic, funny way, while my mom crossed her arms and glared at him playfully.

I winced at the thought of my dad, pulling the blankets closer around me and suddenly feeling more depressed than usual. It's been so long since he'd gone out to go get the mail and never returned, but I still wait for him, every single day.

 Screw you, optimistic-lucky-to-go-unicorn self.
