It was a mild day. The weather wasn't too hot, nor too cold. It was actually, the perfect temperature for a walk. You were taking your dog for a walk down the wider sidewalks of a close neighborhood. There werent really any houses within a ten minute drive of your house, so sometimes you drove out into the city so ol Fido could get a sniff of some other dogs. You werent paying attention when your dog started to pull. But you did notice when he started to yank.

"Tim." You scolded, pulling back, before looking for what got him riled up. There was an alley. He was growling at something down there. You frowned, walking into it when curiosity piqued your interest. Tim pulled on his leash, the Lab straining in his harness.

What you saw surprised you. It was a little kid. He couldn't be older than 6. And he was just sleeping in the alley. Your heart broke. You inspected him slowly. His pants were striped and he was wearing a white t-shirt with stains on it. It took you a second to recognize it with blood, and after inspecting him, you realized it wasn't his blood. You furrowed your brows. You gently woke the kid, Tim laying next to him, having calmed down.

He woke up and started to panic a little, crying before seeing you. "Theys left?" He said, his voice small. His accent was, hard to place. It sounded like a boston accent, but with pieces from other places.

You looked around and nodded. "Where are your parents?" You asked softly. He started to cry again, harder this time. You gently hugged him and rubbed his back.

"Theys killed them." He sobbed. "They killed momma and dadda." He clung to your shirt helplessly. He began to babble more, but he was to far in hysterics to make any words you could understand. You hefted him up gently. You were going to take him to a police station when suddenly your thoughts seemed to backtrack. Take him home. You decided. The police were to dangerous for this kid.

"Im going to take you to my house okay? I can get some food in you and a nice warm shower." You soothed, bouncing him a little. "Whats your name kiddo?"

He sniffled, finally calming down as you walked. "Yancy.." He mumbled, clinging to you.

"How old are you Yancy?" You asked, placing him into the backseat and plugging him in, letting Tim lay next to him. He held up four fingers quietly before petting Tim. You nodded with a smile before getting into the car and heading back home. Yancy... You decided you would pick up some kids stuff once he got settled in.
