Later that day, Hyunjin sat on the roof again, staring at the sky. Grey, as always. He took his phone from his pocket and texted the group chat with his friends back home.

Jinnie: yall
Jinnie: my main bishes
Jinnie: text me back omg

Mean Hoe: whaT

Jinnie: hey!! just checking in. things kinda suck here so far but i'm gonna change that. met a cute boy the other day~

Meme Man: ooh jinnie likes a boy
Meme Man: who's the poor soul you're stuck on? i'd like to send him a written apology from your best friends

Mean Hoe: what would we even write? something like "hey, sorry our friend is head over heels for you and will be annoying as hell"?

Jinnie: ok nvm i hate you both

Meme Man: we love you too stupid

Hyunjin shut off his phone. He only felt lonelier now, knowing his friends were so far away. He decided he'd walk around for a bit to clear his head.

"I need something to distract me," he mumbled to himself. He started up the street, once more pushing against the steady stream of people walking in crowds down the sidewalk.

He looked around at the shops and small businesses. There was a bike shop, a gas station, a motel, a library, an ice cream parlour, and a small flower shop next to an empty building with a locked door. The flower shop caught his eye, one of the few colourful things he'd seen since moving to the dreary city, and he found himself walking up its steps. He thought bringing home some flowers would help him feel a little less bleak and alone.
