ON THE TRACKER SCREENS of the forward observatory station, Captain Lewis Delgado watched the three space fighters loom larger as they limped, barely staying on course, toward base Zebra. Quite bitterly, he shook his head as he returned the cold coffee on the tray and signaled the drone servitor to collect it. It had been a week, an awful week of setbacks to their beleaguered unit as they frantically tried to hold the front of quadrant Charlie. Under the unrelenting pressure of the Mars cyborgs, complete collapse may come any moment, and this weakened sector of human defense will fall.
