Pearl of the Dragon(Chap-1)

"YingYing look that's the rock I told you about in my stories" an old man said pointing at the direction of a big rock cradling a 3 years old little boy in his arms. " Is that the rock where the Dragon waits for his pearl ?" the little one spoke in his milky smooth voice while revealing a toothy smile. " Yes " his grandfather replied a soft smile adorning his lips while gazing at the horizon as if remembering some fond memories. " Then why those villagers call him monster ?" the little boy asked him inquisitively. " Because the villagers fear the unknown" that old man replied with bitterness in his voice. ...... ........ A harsh tug on his hands pulled Wei Ying out from his reverie. He looked down and watched as his hands and legs were being tied down one by one with the wooden logs so that he couldn't run away. He was being chained down on the same rock that his grandfather used to tell stories about. " Wei Wuxian listen very well whatever happens don't infuriate the monster by behaving disrespectfully" the village chief spat out before leaving with the others. Wei Ying sighed hopelessly as he watched those villagers leaving till even their shadows could not be seen though they were far away but still he could read what those people were thinking as they disappeared in the distance one by one.

Villager A: We are so lucky this time we didn't have to send our children.

Villager B : Yeah we are lucky Wei Ying turned 15 this year

Villager C : Aren't you afraid that the monster won't be happy with the sacrifice and destroy our village.

Village chief: There's no specific details about the sacrifice just that the monster appears every 100 years to receive the sacrifice.

Villager A: What are you worried about, a monster is being sacrificed for another monster

Villager B(laughing): Yeah yeah you are right.

"I can hear your thoughts old man"Wei Ying smiled bitterly numb towards the feeling of being misunderstood, mistreated just because he was different from them. But who he could blame he would have been afraid too if he saw himself through other's eyes, which in turn made him realize what his grandfather meant by " They fear the unknown" while smiling sadly . He could listen to other's thoughts since he was a child it came to him as natural as breathing he still didn't understand then that he was different from others because he and his grandfather always stayed at a secluded area near the sea far from the village. He still could remember vividly the day when it was brought to his attention that he was not normal. He and his grandfather were in the local market to buy some necessities when he caught the shopkeeper cheating and complained innocently not knowing this would be the start of his misfortune in coming days, his grandfather gasped and tried to stop him from speaking but it was already too late. The shopkeeper turned red in embarrassment and anger, he kicked them out while shouting " Children of a monster would always be monster I took pity on you and this is how you repay me ? Get out of here and never show your face Infront of me". The little 5 year old himself then didn't understand what was happening he could only cry while trying to help his grandfather to stand up as his grandfather apologized repeatedly. He remembered after that day he would be afraid to go out even out of his room as the loathing eyes of those people still haunted him. But all hell broke loose after few years when his grandfather became ill and couldn't go out to work so he had to start earning their living. He would sell fishes whatever he could find in the nets and sometimes he would go deep underwater without having any difficulty in breathing that's when he found out that scales resembling like fish started to grow on his skin whenever he came in contact with the water it didn't bother him at first but he got caught by some fishermen. He stood under the vast sky waiting for his fate as he remembered the past, stars and moons his only companion, uncannily in peace. If he was asked did he feel sad if this day were to be his last ? He would give them a pleasant smile as a gift and answer there's nothing to regret as all his loved ones had left there's nothing to anchor his life, he was free like those wanderer clouds. Thunder started striking hiding the starry sky under the suffocating cloak of dark clouds making the warm breeze ice cold impregnated with churning storm. Then he saw the golden amber eyes staring at him, like a serpent it's head hovered over him tasting his skin with it's split tongue. He could only stand stiff feeling insignificant in the presence of this magnificent creature he could only try to trace the silhouette borrowing the light from the thunder and the glimpses he got mystified his senses.

I FINALLY FOUND YOU these words pulled him out of his trance as he froze like a deer. His eyes searched for any indication that he heard wrong but when he found nothing his bewilderment grew tenfold thinking he could read that creature's thought totally oblivious to the meaning of the said words as he was too engrossed pondering over his discovery. Then he heard again Perhaps he is afraid of me. Wei Ying immediately refused answering stutteringly " No no I'm not afraid" and it felt like the creature wasn't expecting such answer as those amber golden eyes widened in surprise then softened afterwards making him question his own sanity there's a hint of warmth in those eyes he didn't know the reason about. It was very new to him because except his grandfather everyone looked at him with hatred as if his existence in this world was a sin but seeing this creature who was nothing close to a human looking at him with such tenderness made him content to his core perhaps it was not so bad being a sacrificial lamb. Those large eyes kept gazing at his eyes as if assessing him but then it shone and his eyes started to droop down making everything hazy around him as he was lulled to sleep.
