The Extraordinary in the Ordinary

In an ordinary state, there was an ordinary town.  In that ordinary town, there was an ordinary school house.  In that ordinary school house, being taught by an ordinary teacher, was an ordinary group of children.  Amidst that ordinary group of children there was one extraordinary girl.  Her name was Sasha.

"Attention please," declared Mrs. Jones, clapping once.  A few stray hairs escaped from her bun, wave in the breeze wafting through the open door.  A boy was standing next to the teacher.  His floppy brown hair fell into his hazel eyes, and he stood about five feet tall.  Dressed in simple clothes, he looked like another well-brought up town boy whose parents wanted to be "farmers" out in the rural country.

"Class, introduce yourself.  Girls first, then boys."

"I'm Kayliee!" she giggled, flipping her blond hair over her shoulder and giving the boy a wink.

"The complete and total airhead," whispered Miranda.

"Kayla."  "Miranda."  "Michelle."  "Laynee."  "Lisa."  "Eliza."  "Elizabeth."

"I'm called Sasha."  When she spoke, the boy's eyes were immediately drawn to her.  Everyone saw this, with mixed reactions.  The girls (except for Kayliee and her friends Laynee, Lisa, and Eliza) giggled.  The boys, except for one, went "Ooooohh!" and Mrs. Jones sighed.

"Boys, your turn.  And quit this nonesense!" she snapped.

"I'm Will."  He was the only one to glare at the new boy.

"John."  "Ben."  "Austin."  "Justin."  "Ian."  "Ethan."  "Kevin."

"I'm Joe," replied the boy.

Mrs. Jones put Joe in the empty desk at the back of the room.

"Now, who can tell Joe what we are studying?"

"Oh, oh, me!  I know!" Kayliee shouted out.  " We are studying the Victorian times, when so-and-so did such-and-such."

"And someone did idiotic things?" murmured Miranda.  "'Cause that's most of our class."

"Miranda!" Mrs. Jones sternly reprimands.  "I will not tolerate such talk in this classroom!"

"Whatever," shrugs Miranda.
