Author's Note: Welcome to my newest Queen fic, Planetary! If you haven't read my story Lover, I strongly suggest doing so before continuing, as this story picks up from where that one left off (sort of) and the events will likely make no sense if you haven't read it. Without giving too much away, enjoy!
All of the characters in this story are based on fictional versions I have created for the sole purpose of this story. None of the character's actions, words, etc. are from real life events and any correlation to such is purely coincidental.
"I don't think I've ever seen anything more beautiful."
Brian looked over and caught your eye, smiling at you from the driver's side of the car. You didn't say a word but instead simply smiled at him and, to Brian, that spoke volumes.
He had wanted to take you for a drive tonight and you'd happily agreed. You needed some time away. Sometimes if you didn't take the time to do something enjoyable for yourself, you became too overwhelmed to do much of anything but sulk.
But now as the two of you were driving down some old country road, you couldn't help but feel as if you were flying. The giddiness in the pit of your stomach was the most intoxicating feeling you think you'd experienced in years. The windows were rolled down and you stuck your arm out into the wind, a slow intake of breath following the action as you reveled in the way the air felt moving fast through your fingers.
Brian's long, curly locks were secured in a ponytail at the back of his neck. He reasoned he wouldn't have been able to see to drive with the windows down blowing his hair all about his face. Some of his tighter curls had come loose and now framed his face. His glossy curls shone in the fading sunlight and you longed to touch it. But you were having too much fun. You wished the moment might last forever.
Brian kept his eyes on the road, but couldn't help stealing a glance in your direction every now and again. It was true. You werethe most beautiful thing he had ever seen. You weren't shy in telling Brian that he had stolen your heart and he couldn't help feeling the same way about you.
This was the first chance that you and Brian had gotten to really share in each other's company and spend it the way the two of you had always wanted. A lot had changed in the passing years. Roger had come home and was still continuing to see Emily, growing closer to starting a family of their own someday. But work was destroying Brian. He spent countless hours in the studio, attempting to make up for lost time what with Roger's unplanned sabbatical. You knew he was working himself to death. And the worst of it was that if he hadn't kept himself so preoccupied with work, the two of you could've easily pursued your own relationship. Brian had put things on hold whenever Roger left and you never pressured him Not even now that everything was chugging along smoothly. Or was it? This was the first time that you hadn't heard a word of the new album they were working on and that was very unlike Brian. He was always eager to share and receive input. But not this time. He was growing more and more closed off these days. And you felt as if he was drifting further and further away from you.
But today was different. There was no stress this day. The two of you had no destination. You were purely enjoying each other's company and the warm summer weather you had longed for ever since the dead of winter had set in months ago. As Brian approached a crossroads, you tried to read the street signs. Brian sped past the stop sign which resulted in you giving him a playful slap on the arm. He just laughed it off in that charming tone of his and kept driving. You hadn't recognized either of the street names. Normally that would have alarmed you but you had never trusted anyone more than you trusted Brian. You knew he would always keep you safe (except maybe for running that stop sign).
