"David, come downstairs now!" My mother shouted as she was preparing to say farewell to my father. "Yes, mother!" I shouted back at her. I was really starting to get annoyed at her. And our arguments would be even bigger and louder when my father leaves for Asia to negotiate a deal with an Asian Company. "Don't shout at your mother, David." My father said quietly. He was a small but plump man who married my mother in the early twenties while he was in college.
He told me that my mother was always obsessed with girly things and was very disappointed when she discovered that I was going to be a boy during one of her medical checkups when she was pregnant with me. "Yes, father." I said while going down the stairs to meet my father and my mother who was standing in the doorway while glaring at me like she always does when I throw shit back at her. "You should really learn some manners, young man. If you were a girl I could probably teach yo-" My mother said before I interrupted her with "Yeah, yeah. You always wanted a girl, right?
Then, why don't you go make and dump another baby out and hope for a girl, yeah?" I said casually as this was something which happened every day, her pressing an argument about how better I would be if I was a girl and me telling her to get another kid if she wants a girl that much." "David!" my father angrily said while looking directly at me as he was standing by the door.
My mother was already used to me mocking her inability to give birth again as she got some medical problems under birth which lead to her not being able to give birth again. So, the only thing I noticed was a shift from her mocking face to a more sad face as she looked down at the floor. My father noticed it all and sighed while he said "You two better learn to coexist together while I am gone for the upcoming months", he looked up to me as I was quite long for my age of 18. "And you, my son. Please take care of your mother, she really is still traumatised from birth. You probably wouldn't be getting that kind of pressure if she could just try to get you a sister."
My father said in a low voice but I noticed that my mother still heard him. "Please, son. Just focus on getting along with your mother, it will help both you and her, mentally." He said as he took his coat and his hat and said a quick goodbye as he was already running late for his flight.
I said my goodbyes and turned around to look at my mother who was still looking down at the floor but looked like she was thinking about something as she noticed that I was looking at her and started to inspect me from the bottom and up She mumbled something like "This could work" as she started walking towards the kitchen until she turned around and said "We gonna have chat under dinner, David." she said in an almost affectionate matter.
I just shrugged my shoulder and said okay while I went back to my room.I wonder what she was talking about? Oh, well. She was probably thinking about a new recipe. And that chat is probably some chores I will have to do now that my father can't supervise us.
After 15 minutes, I heard my mother shouting to come downstairs to eat. As I walked down to the 1st floor I couldn't but exclaim in delight how delicious the dinner was smelling all the way from the kitchen. I walked faster to the dinner-table as the smell was really good. And, I saw my mother who looked at me and smiled and told me, "I have some new rules while your father is away".
She said as she continued smiling towards me.I looked at my mother who was pretty average looking, with brown eyes and brown hair. She was your average woman/mother who looked caring and loving if you didn't know her.
I sat down at my chair and saw that there was nothing in front of me. I looked suspiciously up at her and said "Why is there nothing here? Is this some kind of small buffet? "No, it isn't a buffet." My mother said in a harsh tone. "You will only be allowed to eat if you fulfil my demands towards your behaviour and hobbies." I was shocked as I looked at her. "What are you talking about?" I said.
"Didn't you understand what I said? If you want to eat something in this house then you better behave as I want you to" She said harsher and louder then previously. I looked at her, angrily this time and said "What are those demands then?" I asked. "Do I have to clean my room or the whole house to get dinner?" I asked.
"Maybe later, David. But my demands can be easily fulfilled by you cooperating." She smirked at me as she said that.
"Then, what are your demands?" I said.
"The first one is easy." She said, "If you want me to give you dinner today, then give me your room key!"
