[ORIGINAL CHAPTER]
I had been studying to be a doctor in Los Angeles for the previous 7 years, but when I finished my degree, I chose to return to my hometown of Forks, where I had grown up and lived until I was 14 years old, when my parents decided to go to Phoenix with my Cousin Bella Swan and her family. I didn't like Phoenix since it was a sports and leisure city and it was hot; I enjoyed the cold and preferred to read in the rain. I had only ever known forks.
Moving to Forks would also allow me to see my Cousin Bella, who had just recently relocated to town because her mother and stepfather's were traveling for Phil's baseball career. I also wanted to go to Forks to meet Bella's boyfriend Edward and make sure he was good enough for her because I didn't have any siblings of my own and Bella was more like a sister than a cousin to me. My uncle Charlie Swan was the police chief at the time. I hadn't seen them both in years due to my parents' hectic schedules, medical school, and my father's death, and there didn't seem to be enough time, so now seemed like the best opportunity to catch up with them. I also wanted to relocate to Forks because it was a calm town with a small population of people who had lived there for generations and knew everyone.
Forks also had the best grills we used to go every Friday with Bella and her parents. Forks was also a less dangerous even though there was dangerous animals like wolves and bears but they didn't scare me because I had been taught to shoot from a young age I would go hunting often with my father, Charlie and his friends. Atleast when I moved back I would know people so I wouldn't feel as lonely like I did back in Phoenix and Los Angeles. When the plane touched down in Forks I grabbed my bag from the seat beside me before heading to the baggage belt to grab my suitcase before I headed towards the airport door before stepping through hearing rain pattering down against the ground as I looked forward I saw the smiling face of my uncle leant against his cop car "Nick" Charlie said happily as he walked over to me and pulled me in for a tight hug It seemed like he missed me.
"Uncle Charlie" I said happily because I had missed him too after a long meaningful hug we pulled back looking at each other and smiled "It's been a long time," I said smiling at him "indeed it has", Charlie says before he grabs my bags "Get in Nick I'll deal with these" Charlie says as he heads to the boot with my bags before I get into the passenger seat of his car. I sit there for 2 minutes before Charlie judos In the car "lets go home" Charlie says with a huge grin on his face before he starts the car and turns on the radio before he drives off. As we drive through Forks I look out of the window taking in all of the nostalgia of the memories I had in this town. "So are you going to be working in the hospital now then," Charlie asked as he looked at me.
"You're going to like it there Dr Cullen is a terrific doctor, no matter what the people around here think," Charlie said as I turned to face Him. "Cullen as in Edward Bella's boyfriend," I asked, causing Charlie to make a face since I don't believe he was happy with Bella's choice of boyfriend. "Yeah," Charlie said "How did you know?" Charlie asked. Charlie looked confused, as if I didn't understand what was going on. "I speak to Renee on a regular basis," I said, raising his eyebrows.
We arrived at Charlie's house after a short drive, which made me smile as I looked through the window as he pulled up the drive until he parked the car and I got out, before Charlie threw me his house keys, and I walked up the path and to the door, opening it and stepping in, feeling nostalgic because I hadn't been here in years. I started having childhood memories till Charlie walked in, carrying my luggage before putting them down. "Make yourself at home," Charlie said as he went passed me, tapping me on the shoulder.
I used to spend every weekend here as a kid with my uncle, Bella, and her mother, Renee, till I heard "Nick" and turned around to find my Cousin Bella smiling at me. "Bella," I replied before she raced over to me and hugged me. "Hey, how's school been?" I said as I sat down on the couch with Bella. "Good," Bella replied with a smile. "Beer Nick?" Charlie said as he stood in the kitchen doorway. Charlie inquired as he had two drinks in his hand. "Thanks," I said as Charlie passed me a beer. As I took my first sip, I felt at ease.
"How's your mother doing?" Bella asked. Bella and my mother were close when we all lived in Phoenix, and her mother Renee would frequently come over for dinner , but as we all moved away to different areas, we didn't communicate as often as we used to. "Good, I spoke to her and my step father yesterday," I answered. Later, we all went out to dinner at a local restaurant, and as we came in, everyone welcomed Bella and Charlie before we all sat down. After a few minutes, a familiar woman approached and said, "Oh my Nick?" The woman asked "Yeah Cora right?" I asked. "It's been a long time since Charlie told us you're a doctor," Cora said as everyone at the bar lifted their beers at me as Charlie sat there guilty.
"Are you guys ready to order?" Cora asked before we gave her our orders. I ordered a steak and a beer, and after dinner, we all headed home. I decided to get a good night's sleep because tomorrow was my first day as a resident at the local Forkes hospital, and I needed all the rest I could get. I was both excited and nervous. I came home from work and went straight to bed since I didn't want to be late for my first day at work. Especially if I wanted to impress Dr. Cullen and a great doctor in this community as a doctor.
