"Er, I s'pose you want this back now. It is yours after all." I tried to hand my- no Harry! My dad's- cloak to him.
"Harry, you keep it. When you were born, I made plans to give it to you for your first Hogwarts Christmas but it looks like old Dumbles beat me to it. I haven't had it in thirteen years, I don't really need it anymore. But, I'm honoured you thought to give it back. If it was me, I wouldn't. You're a lot like your mum like that." He confessed. "I'm pretty sure Violet would've kept it. Shh, don't tell her that. That girl has the Evans temper all right. You don't, do you? The last thing I need is another hot head on my hands." He looked panicked at the thought.
"All I'm gonna say is, I may not be a redhead but I can have a temper on me. It's one of the things that kept me alive. Being able to stand up to those pigs stopped me from becoming a mindless slave to them." I explained.
Just then, mum came into the room. "Come on boys. We're gonna leave now. I know you want your father, son time but I'm sure you'll get it at home." She laughed.
"Okay lils. Say, Harry? Would you care to accompany me into the forest once we arrive at the manor?" Dad asked whilst mum adopted a stern look.
"Potter, you dare and I will hex your balls off. Harry is in no condition for your antics at the moment." She threatened.
I rolled my eyes slightly. "Mum I'm fine. I've been into the Forbidden Forest before. I'm sure the forest at the manor isn't that bad. I've probably dealt with worse." I told her.
She snorted. "Like what?"
"Voldemort. Three times." I deadpanned, clearly not thinking.
Both my parents looked at me, shock plastered onto their faces. "What?!" Lily shrieked.
"Er, yeah... obviously when I was a baby. First year, he kinda possessed my teacher and tried to steal the Philosophers stone. I stopped him. Second year, it was his sixteen year old self preserved in a diary that possessed Ginny Weasley. I saved her." I explained, regretting saying anything.
"I honestly didn't mean to do any of them. It just sorta... happened." I trailed off when I saw how angry mum looked.
"Harry James Potter! Never in my life would I have imagined I would be telling my son this but here goes nothing. Don't you dare, ever, and I mean ever, do anything like that again! Do you understand me? I don't care if you 'meant to' or not, you will never, ever do that again!" She seethed.
I cowered back and nodded. "I won't! I promise! It's just that, I didn't realise what I was doing. I wanted to stop Quirrell from getting the Philosophers stone then I wanted to prove I wasn't the heir of Slytherin just because I speak parseltounge. I'm sorry, mum. I really am. I swear." I got a weird look from dad for the last comment but he just shook his head and smiled.
"Well, as long as you don't do it again, you're fine. If I find out you've done something like that again mr, you will be in serious trouble!" She warned me.
I quickly nodded.
Mums emotions switched like there was a little button inside her head that someone kept pressing. "Alright, lets go then."
She held my hand which normally, I'd be embarrassed about but I never got the chance to before so actually, I was fine with it.
I grabbed dad's arm too once he had gotten Violet and we all apparated so we were stood outside a huge manor with green vines snaking up the walls and vast, beautiful fields surrounding it along with a massive forest.
I was finally home.
A few weeks later, the manor had become my home, there was no more 'Lily and James', only 'mum and dad'. I was so happy there.
It was the first of September and we were all making our way to platform 9 3/4 to go to Hogwarts. Violet looked confused at the barrier, "It's a wall... where's the platform?"
I smirked. "Well, it's inside the wall of course. Where else would it be? But there's a passcode to get in you see." I winked at dad over her shoulder. "You have to..." I whispered the rest.
"Surely not? I'd look quite stupid. Why don't you go first?" She asked.
"Well, it's different for boys ours is a test of strategy. We have to guess the passcode in the bricks. It doesn't change though so it's easy after first year."
"I don't believe you, show me!" She demanded.
I showed her a random combination and stuck my arm through. "See? Now you try yours."
Violet finally saw sense and looked towards mum. "It ain't true, is it mum?"
Lily laughed and shook her head. "Of course not. Harry's just messing with you."
"I got locked out of the platform last year." I mentioned. "A house elf blocked Ron and me from going through. We took a... never mind." I stopped quickly when I realised who exactly I was telling. "I mean, Ronald and I did the responsible thing and waited for Mr and Mrs Weasley to come back." My mum's stare became intense and commanding.
"Tell the truth, Harry James." By being middle named, I knew that meant I would've in trouble if I didn't.
"We, er, may have takenron'sdad'sflyingcar!" I burst out.
She glared and said, "You're lucky you need to go to the train now. Go through and set a good example for your sister this year!"
I hurried through the barrier. Now I knew what Ron and Hermione meant when they told me that mothers were the scariest thing on the planet. Especially redheaded mothers. Lily Evans was a force to be reckoned with.
I found my friends waiting by the train. "Hey guys. Sorry I didn't stay at Diagon Alley longer. I went home to my parent's manor after blowing up uncle Vernon's sister." Rob burst out laughing but Hermione wasn't so impressed.
"After what now?! Harry!" Hermione scolded.
"It was an accident, 'Mione. She called my mum a bitch and my dad a lazy bastard. My magic just... took control when I got mad. I couldn't think straight when that bloody bitch was insulting them." I explained as my dad came up behind us.
I heard a chuckle behind me. "Glad you care Harry but I wouldn't let your mum hear that foul language if I was you. You'd be grounded even though you'd be at Hogwarts." My face went bright red and I muttered an apology to my smirking dad. "Though, I don't really mind. Say what you want when she's not around just as long as it isn't insulting us."
I smiled up at him. "Sounds easy enough." He ruffled my hair, grinning down at me. "I need to go now dad." I told him as Ron and Hermione left to get a compartment.
"Okay Harry. Just let me get your mum first. Wait here squirt." His hand made its way to my hair again, messing it up even more. I pouted and glared playfully as he laughed before going to find mum who had just been helping Violet get her trunk on the train. All of them made their way over to us.
Mum gathered Violet and I into her arms, giving us a huge hug. I closed my eyes, enjoying the moment. Eventually, we had to let go of each other and she started talking. "Listen here you two. If I don't get at least one letter a week, you'll be getting a howler. You got it? I want to know everything. Just make sure not to get any detentions. Stay safe and out of trouble." I think that last part might just be slightly aimed at me. I don't know what gave me that impression. Maybe it was the intense look I received when she said it. Who knows? "I love you both loads. Bye!"
As we were walking towards the train, I heard dad shout "Be sure to pull some pranks for me! But don't get caught!" I laughed as I heard "Owww! Lilyyyy, that hurt!" In a whiny voice from him. I assume she hit him.
I found Ron and Hermione in a compartment and joined them, sitting down with a smile. I didn't notice the man asleep in the corner as I waved goodbye to my parents, on my way back to Hogwarts.
