Kiro slurred slowly wake with a heavy head. There was an uneasy feeling in his stomach making him want to throw up. Slowly, without opening his eyes, he tried propping himself up. His left arm gave away. And he fell back down at an angle. Trying again he pushed harder this time, until he was sat slouched upon the mattress, his legs still under the covers.
Slowly prising his eyes open, the room came into focus. The walls were a barron grey stone with small vents at the peak of the walls. He was sat on a bed with pure white sheets. Behind him was an a assortment of machinery with his vitals and then some stuff that wasnt currently being used.
His arm was wrapped in bandages and ached slightly. Even with all the medical machines this didn't look like a hospital. It was too dark and gloomy, not like you would describe a hospital as a happy place. But there was an eerie aura in this room. Like doom was impending.
There was a sudden chink in the door like a key turning in a lock and the metal door in the corner swung open. In stepped an elderly looking man, glaring down at a clipboard arked in his right hand. He was in a cream lab coat. His skin rilled over in waves and his hair was a wilting gray. Like daggers his eyes were narrow and sharp. Finally, as he approached Kiro's bed he looked up.
"Ahhh," he exclaimed, with a glint of excitement. "You're awake. Shorter than expected. The Captain will be pleased,". As briskly as he came in he left, bolting the door behind him. What was going on? He was sure now this wasnt a hospital. He quickly started to re survey the room. What to do? The room was practically empty. Turning over to look on the shelves with the medical equipment he saw a packet with a long syringe in it. Thinking quickly he grabbed it and then slid himself to the edge of the bed facing the door if he needed to get up quickly.
After five minutes of pondering at his situation. The door clicked item again. This time. A man in a grey, flowing uniform came in. He had a black hat with a sliver star but with ten points on it. His walk was astute and precise. He had his arms folded neatly behind his back. He approached the bed with a grin from ear to ear. It was the man from the woods. It was the first time Kiro had really taken time to look at him. His coal hair was driven back over his upside down egg like head. His lips were thin and stenciled, which matched his cold, green, snakelike eyes.
"You lost quite a lot of blood," he said matter of factly. There was no empathy in his voice. It was as of he was reading a shopping list. "I thought you wouldn't make it at one point but you seem to be doing just fine." His tone was slow. The calmness in it despite the situation was chilling and made Kiro immensely uneasy. "Anyway," he continued. "I'm sure it would be of great advantage to you and I if I didn't beat around the bush and so I will get to the point,"
He stood up and walked to the end of the room "I'm sure by now you will have realised you are not in a hospital. You are in top secret military training camp,"
Kiro just started the man down and let him continue.
"Of course it is probably also apparent to you that no ordinary training camp would kidnap a young fourteen year old boy who had just been stabbed by a delinquent," he pause and straightened his collar. "You see, this is a training camp for those few individuals who are gifted enough to have quick thinking, agility and physical strength, three things so rare to find in one person at once and while you have a long way to go, I think you have what it takes, your encounter today proves that,"
Kiro's gaze was stone. Training, gifted, military. The words whizzed in his mind like a whirlpool, drowning him.
"You should also know that we do dont work for the government. We are a private company that has had enough of the falling reputation of this country and have decided drastic action is needed. Weather its wiping out criminals or corrupt politicians. This camp is responsible of training agents that can accomplish this. Soon other criminals will fear the consequences of their actions and we will have restored peace to our nation,"
"Peace," kiro spoke for the first time now. "You see peace. I see terror. I wont do this."
The Captain let out a brief yet menacing grin. "Like you have a choice on the matter. Your training starts tomorrow. As for your family well...
Unfortunately we will have to stage your death in a helicopter crash on the way to the hospital. You will never contact them or anyone you once knew again. If you do they will be killed,"
Even now his voice was un threatening and yet managed to break into Kiros mind like ice cold seeping into the body."The life you knew if over. I'll be honest. You have been rather unfortunate today. Not because you were attacked but because I was there to see it. Yes. Rather unfortunate indeed," He looked away from Kiro. "Soon you will be escorted to your quarters and be allowed to rest till the morning. There are nine other candidates other than you being trained right now. They will be in the dorm with you. Oh and you wont be going by 'Kiro' anymore. You will now go by Shadow,"
