Miracle's POV
Where is that trucking shoe?

Shhhh Mir, retrace your steps.

Okay, I had them under my bed, but I checked and they weren't there. Omg, I'm going to be late to school. I've never been late to school. Maybe I should just wear different shoes. NO. Why am I even making a big deal out of this?

I walk in the bathroom and look in the mirror, my face standing still. I do this every morning. Just for a little assurance, I guess. I just look back at myself and chant:

Just another day
Dream and you're away
Just another page
Turn and it's okay

My dad used to say this to me when I was sad or when there was a storm outside. The truth is, it's been two years and I don't think I'll ever not miss him. He was my best friend. My only friend. We did everything together. And when he died, a piece of me left with him. I once read that "Death is not the greatest loss in life. The greatest loss is what dies inside us while we live."

"Miracle Rose, come downstairs, breakfast is ready!" I hear my mom shout from the kitchen. I'm snapped out of whatever thought I was in and rush down stairs with one shoe on. Once I get downstairs, I see my black converse on the floor by the couch. I sigh in relief and pick it up, immediately dropping it, feeling the wet slobber covering it. Ughh.

"ZING!" I scream and my huge Siberian Husky comes running down the stairs to where I am, knowing he is in trouble. I can't help but smile at how scared he looks, so I just rub his fur as he licks my cheek.

"Don't think we're friends right now. This is bad" I tell him, waving my gooey converse in the air. He turns his head to the side and runs upstairs. I think he's not coming back so I go sit at the island in the kitchen, when he comes rushing down the stairs with a pair of combat boots in his mouth. Me and my mom laugh and I take the shoes from his mouth. I swear this dog is human.

"Thanks bud, I guess we can be friends again" I smile and he jumps in the air in victory.

"Hun, you'll have to take your food to school or your going to be late," my mom tells me with an eyebrow raised. I shriek and jump up, running out the door, getting my jacket off the rack before I leave, hearing my mother laugh and walk out behind me. I scream a goodbye to Zing before my mom closes the door and walks slowly to the car on purpose.

"Do you not want me to succeed, woman," I say playfully to my mother and all she does is laugh. You could say I was really good at making me look 10x happier than I really am. I mean, don't get me wrong, I am happy and I love my mom and Zing, but I just can't help but feel like there's a piece missing. We wouldn't be who we are now without him. My dad got me Zing for my eleventh birthday, so he wouldn't even be here if it wasn't for my dad.

We pull up to the school, and I get out after telling my mom bye. It's kind of embarrassing that I don't have my own car, but Im completely afraid of cars after what happened to my father. I walk into the school reading a book when I'm stopped by a girl.

"Hey Luce, it's nice to see you," I say, putting my head back in my book. Let's meet Lucy Grace. She is this beautiful brunette who considers me her friend. She is kind of middle class at our school. A bit gossipy. The only reason I know anything that's going on in this place. "Hey Miracle, it's nice to see you too. I have tons of tea to catch you up on from over the summer," she shrieks in excitement and grabs my arm, walking with me down the hall. (Oh, did I not mention it is the first day back from summer break? What a sly fox I am;))
She instantly stops blabbing about who knows what when everyone in the hallways stops and makes way for someone. Wait-5 someone's.

"They're here," Lucy screeches, nudging my arm, but I'm just staring at them as they walk the hallway like they own the place. Because they do. At least that's what Lucy told me. I've never actually talked to any of them except Liam, but that was in fourth grade. Don't ask me how I remember that.

"Omg, Mir they are coming this way. How do I look?" She asks me and I roll my eyes,  "You look go Lu, now get your boob off my shoulder," I tell her, wiping my shoulder but still smiling. She straightens up as they walk closer, but frowns when they walk pass us without a glance. Poor Lucy. I look at her and give her a hug.
"He's definitely playing hard to get," I reassure her. Lucy has had a big crush on Zack, one of the five most popular boys in our school, for as long as I can remember.
"Really?" She asked, her eyes gleaming with hope and I nod my head because saying it out loud wouldn't sound too sure. The warning bell rings and we part ways as we head of to our first periods.

~~~~~~~~~~
The day went by in a blur. Just a lot of introducing and syllabuses. It was not my favorite time of the day. Lunch. Not because of the food, but because it was my free time. When the bell to end fourth period rings, everyone scatters out of the classroom. I head straight for the library. When I enter, I let out a sigh. I miss the welcoming smell of pages waiting to be read. I wave a hi to Karen, the librarian, and find my seat in the back and open my book. I felt so peaceful and at home just sitting here.
I'm still reading when I hear a figure breathing heavy in front of me. I raise my eyes from my book to see a boy, Liam I think, backing into my corner. He looked like he was hiding from someone. I clear my throat behind him and he turns around to face me. Wow, he is hot. I guess I never really paid attention, but now that I was, I don't think I'd ever seen someone who looked better.
"What?" He asks me and I realize I'm staring.
LIAM'S POV
Is she new here or something? She's beautiful. I would remember seeing her. And now she's staring at me, like she was reading my thoughts.
"What?" I snapped. She gets out of whatever trance she was in and stands up.
"What?" She responds and I roll my eyes.
"I asked first," I reply with a smirk.
"What exactly did you ask?" She asks me with a perfect smile.
"Who are you?" I ask and she looks a little sad, but she tries covering it.
"Um...I've been going to school with you since first grade." She tells me and I instantly deny.
"Bullshit," I say back to her. She looks like she flinched a bit at the word, but she responds.
"Yep, all our lives," she responds sarcastically, which makes me tighten my jaw.
"Well you must not know me, because no one talks to me like that," I tell her seriously.
"Pff, who are you? My king?" She laughs and it sounds like angels singing. What am I saying?
"You don't look scared" I acknowledge and she rolls her eyes at me.
"Cause you don't scare me" she says.
"Don't roll your eyes at me" I growl.
"Jeez, someone woke up on the wrong side of the bed." She says, packing her things. Just as she's about to walk out, I stop her.
"I don't remember you" I tell her, still not believing I've gone to the same school as her all my life.
"Well there's a nice way to boost my ego," she says and walks away.
Woah, she's got a mouth.
