Led Blindly

"Lithallia?" Terr asked as I raised my head from his shoulder.

"I'm awake," I answered.

"Are you alright?" he asked. I paused before answering. Then nodded.

"I need to see Tyreek."

"Do you remember how to get to his house?" Terr asked as he pushed himself off the ground, pulling me with him. I felt unsteady for a moment on my feet and recalled how the cut on my hand had appeared on my body in Mirror. I wasn't sure I was liking the closer connection.

"Yeah," I replied. I began plotting out a mental map and found that it didn't go further than Epitome fields. I sighed. "No."

Terr's ear twitched. "I can take you, but don't you have somewhere else to go today?"

I noted the sun rising from the east and tried to remember my Earthly agenda. "Oh, yes. I have school. Then I'll see Tyreek later. Oh, wait. I'll see him at school."

Terr laid a hand on my shoulder. "Lithallia, are you alright?" I felt like he had asked already so I nodded to reassure him. He released his hold on me. "Okay. Take it easy at, err-"

"School," I finished for him. "Yep, thanks."

I sprinted back into my house and up the stairs. Luckily, my natural clock was still accurate enough to get me up in time for school. Kya was just beginning her morning ritual.

"You look mighty fine this morning," I commented when she caught me looking at her reflection in the mirror she sat in front of.

She glanced at my reflection and narrowed her eyes. "Why are you so bright and cheery?"

"Just good to see you looking so strong and healthy."

Kya shrugged. "You aren't dressed yet. Are you going to school looking like that?"

I stuck out my lower lip and pretended to pout. "I tell you how great you look and the only thing you have to say to me is that?"

"Honesty is the best policy. Just trying to help you out," Kya said with a bright smile.

I shrugged on a fresh shirt and a pair of knee-length cargo shorts. Kya handed me a brush and I ran it through my hair a couple of times. "See you later?" I asked. Kya nodded.

The bus got me to school a little early as usual. Camy was at her locker so I joined her.

"Good morning," I said.

Camy greeted me with a sleepy "g'mornin'" of her own. She yawned and placed her hand on my shoulder.

"Are you okay, Litty?"

"Yeah, I'm good."

Camy pulled her hand from my shoulder as if my shirt sleeve had burned her. "Litty, didn't I tell you? You'll never get a second date wearing clothes like that." She stuck out her tongue and then flashed me a grin. She had good style, or so she said. She often wore tight fitting jeans and a lacy or loose-fitted blouse. Her shoes were different every day. She didn't bother to style her hair, but she had thick copper-blond hair that looked model-quality without accessories.

I compared her image to my boy's shorts and shrugged. "I'm more than okay with that and I was in a rush this morning anyway."

"Oh Litty. You are the only one I know who rushes to school."
