I hate being late for church. It always seems as if all eyes are on me. It smells like old spice & moth balls in here, and I'm really not in the mood for all of the fake smiles & how have u beens.
I just gotta see Jason.... He makes me feel like a kid again. His smile alone makes my pussy throb . lmao... Yes even in church. I've looked everywhere, & I still haven't seen him yet.
Jason was a heart breaker & he knew it. Those half moon shaped dimples & those sleepy gray eyes were just the Cherri's that topped this banana split. " It should be a sin to be this fine" he often said to himself, admiring his image in anything that reflected his way.
Jason & Naija had grew up living on the same block for most of their teenaged years. Both of their parents were faithful members of " Faiths Temple".
A place that was more like a highschool setting, full of old people & Hippocrates. Believe it or not... Just because you grow up in a church home... Don't make you hollier than thou....
In fact, most church girls are the biggest freaks & they men are fags and or/ HOES.
you would be surprised at some of the things that went on behind those walls.
The fine words of Ronald T. Higgins blast loudly from the church's speakers.
" Look at your neighbors " & tell them. " The devil don't live here". They all repeated in unison. " Cause Gooooooddd...
Didn't tell us not to enjoy life".
" He said for us not to abuse it".
He wipes the sweat from his brow with a white face cloth.
He turns his back to the congregation before speaking.
" My sisters & brothers"... " Now what I'm about to say"... ( he clears his throat) " just may be for you". " You can't blame everything on the devil" "Amen"? His voice rises again.
" Youuuu "... " Have to take the blame for some of your own problems". "Amen"???? " Give him a praise if you know God is good".
Applause rang through the sanctuary.
"The doors of the church are still open". "Will you come?" The song "Glory to his name" plays through the piano organ. A single chair was placed in front of the podium. Still no one came... Next, it was time for alter prayer. Everyone got up from their seats & joined hands at the front of the church. Brother Cordell led this prayer. Naija couldn't even focus on his words, cause she kept hearing little snickers of laughter.
Wait a minute... naija says to herself.
"Ain't this supposed to be a church " ???
That's exactly why I don't fuck around... Lord please excuse my thoughts... babe... Hating still goes on in the church. Naija was use to dirty looks from over half of the congregation. Was it the way she was dressed? Didn't God say come ad you are?Naija looks down at her black fitted dress. She was already insecure & thought she had done a pretty Damn good job of picking out her fit the day before at the local "City Trends". Hell... she was cute. " I bet Jason will love this". She says to herself... reflecting back to her trying it on in the fitting room.
Naija bit her tongue, cause she knew the old her would have hopped across the two women who stood to her left...ending all that they thought was funny.
On her way back to her seat was when she spotted him...He was dressed in grey & black from head to toe... it was almost like a special light alluminated him. Like the one that lit up "Leroy"... in that popular old movie ... The last Dragon ".
Naija felt butterflies in her stomach, and love songs played in her head. By this time, her whole walk had changed. Usually, she would have Damn near ran back to her seat. But this time, she switched as slow as she could. She even dropped her matching clutch bag on purpose, bending over seductively... hoping that Jason noticed.
For the remainder of the service... he was all that she could think about.
Pastor Hoggins had ended the service three times before everybody was actually dismissed.
She had to find him... Naijas eyes searched high & low.
When she finally got to him...
That cheesy ass smile she once wore had now turned into a frown. She had reached out to grab his hand , but ended up being intercepted by the hand of another woman.
She knew she hadn't seen him in years, but, who was this lady?
She turned out to be... Candice Hoggins...
Yes the churches song bird & daughter of Pastor Hoggins & the first lady... she was also Naijas first cousin.
After picking her face up off of the floor... she proceeded to her car. When she got there she was surprised to see a plain all white envelope addressed to her, on the wind shield of her car.
That devious smile returned to her face again as she opened the private letter.
The man of her dreams... Jason, had some how managed to slip her his number... & it was on now.
