GUNSHOTS

GUNSHOTS. ELLA'S HEART dropped when she heard them outside. They were so many shots and shouts, they just wouldn't stop. How she heard the shouts was beyond her. Everyone she knew was out there and she was stuck in here. She had to do something to help them, or else they would all die from the hands of whoever was out there shooting, not caring about the walkers who would hear the shots for miles.

Then it dawned on her.

It was the Governor. He was here to take care of his little problem and to take the prison from their grasps after they did so much, went through so much to take it to be safe from the outside world. Ella couldn't and wouldn't allow that to happen, she knew no one else would either. The Governor would die before he could even lay his hands on the prison.

If only Merle never found Glenn, Maggie and Ella then they wouldn't be in this predicament.

Ella shakily pushed herself out of the wheelchair. She winced in pain when it shot through her abdomen and broken ribcage. She put one foot out in front of her, then moved the other to the cell door. Her hands grabbed it and she pushed it open. She squeezed her eyes shut to subdue the pain she was going through at the moment.

As she walked out of the cell, she saw Maggie sprinting to her with a handful of rifles. Maggie grabbed her hand, panting. "Can you walk?" she questioned. Ella nodded. "Okay, help me get these guns outside to everyone else. I don't think Beth, Carol or Axel went out there with a gun." she explained.

With that, Ella followed Maggie down the stairs the best she could. She kept pushing back the pain, carrying the guns in her arms. They turned down into one of the cell blocks and picked up their pace. The gunshots were louder than ever now that they were getting closer.

Ella wondered if anyone died. The Governor coming was no surprise, but they were definitely caught off guard since they were mostly worried about Rick coming back from his little hallucinations he was seeing, or whatever it was. No one knew for sure, only he knew what he was seeing. But he wouldn't admit he was going crazy.

They put their sides on the door that would lead them out to the crossfire. Ella and Maggie exchanged one look to know they were afraid. "One, two-" they pushed the door open. Ella ran over to the wall while Maggie tossed Beth two guns for her and Carl.

Ella peeked over the corner to see Axel laid dead on the ground, a bullethole embedded right in the middle of his temple. "Carol!" she tossed her a rifle, and she barely caught it. Ella began to rapidly shoot at the person in the guardtower above them. Maggie did the same. Ella saw how terrorstrickened Carol was from the event of Axel getting murdered.

The person mercilessly shot at where Maggie was holed up. Maggie shot back. "Carol, go!" she shouted. Carol stumbled to her feet and ran where Beth and Carl hid.

After a few more rounds, the gunfire stopped. It was eerily silent. Until they heard a car in the distance. Ella looked around for the car. Then she saw it. It was a whole orange van. It broke through the front gate with no hesitation.

"What's going on?" she whispered to herself for she was confused. It wasn't doing anything, it wasn't moving. Not even the men driving it got out of the van. They just stayed there. The Governor stayed put where he was as well, a twisted smile dancing across his lips.

Then it happened. The men inside of the van shot the gate tied on the van. The gate fell down with a loud slam. Growls filled the air and the walkers came running out in a sense, seeking their prey out. Ella let out a breath, her gut clenching at the sight of walkers very easily being let in. She wondered how hard it was to aquire them.

Instead of there being multiple men in the orange van, there was only one. He shot at Michonne a few times as he dashed towards the smashed through gate. Ella and the others shot at the person in the guardtower. Maggie set her eyes on him and shot him right in the eye. Killshot, Ella thought.

"Come on!" Maggie screamed. Ella followed Maggie to the gate to the courtyard, Carl, Carol and Beth right on their heels to help them. They slid the gate open, aiming their guns at the walkers heading towards Hershel. Michonne grabbed her machete and sliced through a bunch.

Shot after shot, body after body. Ella realized there was a whole ton of walkers and the walkers might reach Hershel before they could.

Suddenly, Glenn drove into the courtyard towards Hershel. Relieved, she watched Glenn shoot walkers as Michone helped Hershel jump inside of the truck. Ella shot and shot until Glenn drove the truck out of the courtyard. Closing the gate to the courtyard, Ella slid down the gate, her hands holding her abdomen.

Glenn crouched down to her level. "Are you okay?" he questioned her. He was concerned for why did she decide to come all the way out here from her cell and thought it would be a great idea instead of letting everyone else just do this themselves. He wanted to ask her that, but he knew he would've done the same as her.

"Yeah," she nodded. She turned her head to the courtyard full of walkers and the broken gate.

How would they fix this now?
