I woke up to a plain white-painted room that only rays from the sun, passing through the white-curtained sliding window seemed to be giving life to it. The first time I woke up, had a doctor greeting me and explaining I was experiencing retrograde amnesia after I underwent a surgery and awoke from a coma, due to a car accident.

Tough luck, I really couldn't remember anything.

They said, I needed to take it easy in retrieving my lost memories in order to have a steady and safe full recovery. Man, I couldn't even remember my parents, my house, my dog, if I had one, or even my birthday. All I know, was my once-pronounced name by the doctor, Axel Andrew Debrou. Well at least, I knew something.

I closed my eyes for a moment, then tilted my head to the side. To my right, was a girl sitting on a chair, holding a book that leveled just below her eyes. Her face was planted on the reading material, but I could still tell she was beautiful based on her exposed features. She didn't seem to notice me so, I continued looking at her. Her facial expressions looked so cute everytime it changes as she read the lines on the page.

Tilting my head at an angle, I could read the book's title, and mouthed 'Arcademia'. Seems like a fantasy book to me. I returned my gaze back at her and saw her staring back at me. And as if something clicked to her, she slowly dropped the object hiding her face down to her lap and revealed her beauty.

Woah.

I was out of words to describe her. Her face looked so innocent yet her eyes showed a thousand mysteries concealed from humanity's knowledge. If only she had worn a white dress instead of a black shirt  that screamed, "LiFe SuCkS" and a black skinny jeans, I would have mistaken her as an angel. Either way, she still looked stunning. Cross that out, the right term should be 'breathtaking'. Perfect, eh?

"You're up,"she chimed, while placing the book on the table beside the bed.

Her smile was amazing! In just nodded, I was too busy daydreaming about this girl beside me. She stood up and grabbed a glass and a pitcher of water, which I didn't notice before. After pouring something to drink, she handed it to me with a pleasant smile and went back to sit.

Who was she? And why is she so nice to me? Wait, a sec...

Was she someone to me back when my memories weren't messed up?

Fortunate me, if she was my girlfriend. I mean, considering the fact that she's here in my room, all alone and waiting 'til I wake up. But, she could also be just a friend or  best friend. How stupid was I if didn't realize the beauty she held then? But that could still change, anyway.

"Don't worry, mom will be here to accompany us, any minute now," she informed , snapping me back from my daze.

'Mom'.

The word repeated inside my head a countless times.

'MOM!'

She used 'Mom'. Not 'your mom', 'my mom', 'their mom', but 'MOM'. This lady has to be my wife, since she considered my mom as her mom! Or maybe, she's my girlfriend and we just settled with calling my mom, her mom. There's one way to find out.

"So, this 'mom'," I started, making her look at me from her book she picked up a while ago. I resumed, "Is she your mom or my mom?"

"Either." She answered simply as she went back to focusing on her book.

Okay, confusing.

"How old are you?" I asked eagerly. She dropped the book to her lap and gave me her full attention.

"The same as you, 18," she replied gently. Definitely not blood-related to me.

I whispered, "Gotta step closer to success." Her brows furrowed when she asked, "What was that?"

"Nothing," I quickly answered, too quick, actually.

Worry was written all over her face when she prodded, "Are you sure? Are you okay, Axel? Do you remember something?"

My... Butterflies floated inside my stomach when she said my name. It sounded so good when she said it.

"Axel," she waved.

"Err.. No, no. I mean, I'm okay. I still don't remember a thing, though," I stammered.

Her facial expression turned bright at my response and assured, "That's fine. The doctor said it's normal, but you'll recover your memories in time."

I smiled at her. This was already fine with me, having you here beside me and keeping me company. More than enough. I think I should have answers to questions in my mind, already.

"Just out of curiosity, did we happen to be... Together?" I hesitated at first but, there goes nothing. She shook her head a little then stared at me in confusion.

"Speak English, Axel."

I rubbed my hand at the nape of my neck, embarrassed of the clearer question.

"You know, you and I in a romantic relationship?"

She chuckled then replied, "No, we're not."

"Dating?" I asked, hoping her answer would be positive. She shook her head again. No.

"Best friends? Friends?" I asked, each getting my hopes crushed. Was she with someone else or what? And why was she here when she's not even my friend?

"We're not dating?" I blurted out in distress.

This was confusing me and I shouldn't be confusing myself just because of this, and seriously, at this state!?

She chuckled again. "We are not in a whatsoever romantic relationship, Axel."

"Then, who on earth are you!?" I stared blankly at her, demanding an answer. She covered her mouth, stopping herself from chuckling, then faced me with a warm smile.

"I'm Alex Andrei Debrou. Your twin, idiot."

My jaw dropped and I felt all the blood in my body drain. As the words slowly registered to me, I wished I didn't wake up from that coma.
