Progress Report 1

It is currently November 26, 2018, at exactly 19:00. This is Jacob Rodriguez talking to family. I am doing well. I am currently at the fishbowl. My tuna sandwiches were very easy to use. I am enrolled in the Arts Program for the troubled elderly. My Dad and I met up at Café de la France. We shared drinks and discussed vacation spots. We talked about our previous pets and new food developments. That is it for now. Jullio Starrs misses you.

I sigh as I press send and then close the laptop. Looking around I take in the moldy new apartment that I was assigned to live in. I put my head in my hands and let out a nervous chuckle. Never before did I think I was going to be in this situation. Who knew that Undercover Investigation could be so cheap. I'm moving in with my undercover family tomorrow but to lower suspicion I'm staying in this trash apartment for now.  The undercover agent posting as my dad is meeting me today. My neat freak side is yearning to clean this place up but I have to resist. This place would take all day to clean. The Bathtub was atrocious. The wallpaper was peeling with mold. The entire apartment smelled like dog pee. Could this apartment get any worse?

The answer is yes. I open a cabinet to find maggots crawling in a left-over plastic bag of weed.  I slammed it shut. I stroll over to my suitcase shivering from the sheer disgust of this place. I pull out the case file and try to relax into the uncomfortably stained couch. Opening the case file, I browse through the list of suspects:

Suspect #1: Maria "Backpack" Mochila Age: 16

Relations:

-Relatives: Adrian Mochila (brother), [mother, father, unknown]

-Other contacts: Matthew "Map" Mapa (suspected boyfriend, sighted kissing), Dora Annetta Márquez (close friend), Diego Márquez (friend of Adrian (brother))

Reason for Suspicion: Spotted by a commercial truck's camera. Pictured holding black duffel bag [possible body, or drugs] in the middle of a field.

Suspect #2: Dora Annetta Márquez

Age: 17

Reason for Suspicion: Sightings "Coincidentally" spotted in multiple crime scene

I frowned at the small list of suspects. How was I going to work with this? I flipped through the to the next file labeled "Victims."

Bianca Lopez:

Murder witnessed but body undiscovered

Seven years into investigation

Bianca Lopez, my mom. I rub my head. Not again. Not again. My mind betrays me and I flashback to 15 years ago.

I crawl around the stairs and peek out from the banister on the second floor. I see mi Madre in between the stairs and the scary men. All I can hear is the pounding on my ears. Eyes blurry with tears, I don't even realize that I'm so scared I'm crying. I can't see what happens next, but I hear it. I cover my ears when I do. The piercing gunshots that dance across the room. I back up into the dark hallway quietly sobbing. Where is mi Madre? I hear the door slam shut as a husky voice talks loudly about a body. I open my eyes slowly as I scramble to my feet. I stare frozen as I look down from the stairs.

I  sigh and rub my temples. The flashbacks have been getting worse. I need to keep them under control if I'm going to have any chance of staying alive on this case. I sigh and close the report.
