It's finally the day before Christmas Break. Two whole weeks of relaxation! I'm going home tonight to pick up Olive, and tomorrow morning the two of us will fly out for London. I still can't believe my mom agreed to let us go. I'm almost done packing when I hear a knock at my apartment door. I listen as one of my roommates answers the door and exchanges a few words with whoever knocked. Their voices are muffled, but the visitor is definitely a male. A moment later my roommate peeks her head into my room. "Joshi wants to talk to you?" She's never met Joshi before. "Okay, thanks," I tell her.

I zip up my suitcase and walk out into the living room. Joshi's sitting on the couch, fidgeting with his hands. He stands up when he sees me enter the room. "Hey, Joshi. What's up?" I ask, standing in the doorway. "Uh, well, I-I ha-have something I need to tell you." Why is he so nervous? He shifts his weight from one foot to the other. "Sure. You can tell me anything," I say. He hesitates a moment before speaking. "Well, we've been friends for a long time, and we know each other very well. Often, when two people have been friends as long as we have, something happens. They start to feel differently about each other."

"What are you saying, Joshi?" I interrupt him, completely lost. Where's he going with this? I am unprepared for what he says next.

"I love you. I always have. I know you may not feel the same way, but I just had to get it off my chest. I wanted you to know before you left for England. I know you really like Ed, and he's a good guy. But I couldn't stand you going off and being with him without knowing I care about you too." When he's finished rambling he abruptly turns and walks to the door. "Sorry I interrupted your packing. Have a Merry Christmas, Mel."

And then he's gone.

I stand frozen, my mouth hanging open slightly. My mind is reeling. Joshi loves me? He's my best friend.

What do I do?
