I stretched the next morning, thinking back to yesterday with Eli. We had gone on and on about me possibly overthrowing the government. I swear, one day, we were going to be arrested because they bugged our conversations. He said he’d support me, but I knew that I wouldn’t overthrow the government. Unless they dared to threaten me.

Then I wouldn’t be so kind.

I took a shower and changed into lounge pants and an old sweatshirt. I grabbed my phone seeing that I had nothing planned with the ‘candidates’ I finally had time to myself. I curled up on the couch texting my friend, Alice, seeing if she wanted to have a movie day.

Five minutes later, the doorbell rang.

Alice, forever known as Ali, had been my friend as long as Eli had been. This had been since birth. She had gotten her match too, her long time crush Luke who was Eli’s older brother, she was lucky. They were perfect for each other. Eli and Luke were exactly the same, just some different features. Anyways, she knew all about my problem. She also knew that I said I would rebel, but then again, she knew another secret of mine.

Who I would choose when time came.

At least, she thought she knew. I would never tell anyone, until last minute. “So. Tell me about yesterday” Ali prompted me. I sighed and turned to face her. “Same as always. Pizza, tree house, talking and reading,” I flipped through the movie choices. “Want to watch ‘The Lucky One’? We both know we loved the book.”

“Sure. Just don’t think that since we’re putting in a movie, means that you’re getting out of explaining everything to me.” Ali lectured me while getting up to make popcorn. I rolled my eyes again, popping the movie in, and grabbing blankets for us. When she came back with our snacks I pressed play and the lights turned off in the living room.

“Okay. Now, what’d you guys talk about in the tree house?” Ali asked, in the dark silence. “Gahhh, Ali! Can we please watch a movie and not discuss my love life?” I threw a pillow at her, missing by a mile. “Nope,” she replied, popping the ‘p’.  “Fine. He said the pretty much the same thing as always. ‘I get you don’t want to marry, but instead of running, why don’t you try to overthrow the government’ all that jazz.”

Ali looked over at me, and sighed. “Okay okay, so he says that every time but still, think about if you actually did! Wouldn’t that be an amazing article in the paper? I can see the headline now ‘Nineteen years old Damsel Reese Cooper defies the Government’ I love it!” I shrugged and turned back to face the movie, not wanting to talk about it anymore. “Well, don’t think about it too much, it won’t be happening. I have to go see Parker tomorrow.” I finished in an almost disgusted tone.

It wasn’t that I hated Parker. I just hated how he acted. Yes he was gorgeous, and yes he was muscular. He had the dark shaggy hair and deep brown eyes that made you melt, but he was so outgoing and flirtatious that it became obnoxious. It was really quite annoying when you had to deal with it on a weekly basis.

She rolled her eyes at me. “Oh, you just dislike going to Park’s house because he mainly wants to make out the whole time.” I threw my hands up in the air as I retorted “Exactly! At least with Eli and Landon we talk. I mean with Park we talk but it consists of us ‘let’s make out.’ ‘no.’ ‘please?’ ‘No. if I say yes, you’ll want to every time.’ Every single time I go over there, that’s mainly our whole conversation. The rest of the time we spend walking around his estate.”

I shrugged, snuggling back into the comfort of fluffy blankets and worn leather couch. We had given up on the movie, putting it on mute. I was lost in my own thoughts. I really don’t think I plan on choosing Parker. If I even choose someone. That leaves Eli and Landon. I’ve known Eli forever and Landon just a bit less than that. I would honestly much rather take my own life before I chose between my three best friends.
