I woke up to the sun shining directly on me. Which meant that Kai opened the curtains.
"Happy birthday to you. Happy birthday to you. Happy birthday dear Nadieeee." Kai sung while smothering me half to death.
"Happy birthday to you." He smiled.
"Will you get off me?" I groaned.
"Why? I thought you liked me on top."
"Kai." I warned. He laughed getting up.
"Come on it's your birthday and I have a surprise for you." He smiled. I sat up in the bed and looked at him.
"Today is only a reminder that I've been stuck in here for almost a year."
"Yeah it's also a reminder that you've been stuck here with me for almost a year." He chuckled kissing my cheek. I playfully rolled my eyes.
"I'm tired of being here."
"Well I have a feeling we'll be getting out of here pretty soon. That's your surprise." He smiled.
"Well it's not much of a surprise if you just told me Kai." I chuckled getting up.
"True. But that's just one part. The other part is that there's...people here." He said lowly, but I heard him.
"Repeat that." I said walking up to him. He started backing up.
"Uh okay Princess I know I should have told you but-"
"How long have they been here?"
"A few months." He shrugged. My eyes widen.
"What the fuck Kai?! Where are they?"
"They're staying at that old boarding house." I crossed my arms.
"Look. I have a plan okay. It's a vampire and a witch. The witch is a Bennett witch. Just who we need to get out of here. The only problem is she can't access her magic."
"You've been watching them?"
"Well yeah. You sleep a lot and I needed to collect intel." I rolled my eyes and put my hands on my hips.
"I do not sleep a lot."
"You slept through most of the road trip to DC, you fell asleep while we were having sex just the other night, and it's currently 1 in the afternoon." He concluded. I was quiet for a minute, then I changed the topic knowing he had a point.
"So how do you expect to get out of here if the witch doesn't have any powers?"
"She's just broken right now. But I'll fix her and we'll be out of here in no time." He said. I sighed shaking my head. He moved close to me and put his hands on my hips.
"You trust me?" He asked.
"I don't know. You've kept this from me for months." He rolled his eyes.
"Well besides that. You trust me?" I looked up at him and nodded.
"Good. We'll be out of here soon. I promise." He said cupping my face.
"Okay." I nodded.
"Okay. Now go brush your teeth. Your morning breath is horrible." I slapped his chest and went to the bathroom. I showered, brushed my teeth and got dressed.
"So are we going to greet our guests?" I asked Kai who was examining his ascendant.
"You haven't even heard out the plan."
"So tell me." I said while putting on my shoes.
"Well the vampire Damon likes bourbon. A lot. So last night I laced every bottle in the grocery store with vervain."
"Are you trying to kill him?"
"It'll look that way but no. Just hoping that the witch Bon Bon goes into defense mode and triggers her magic."
"So what do you want me to do?" I asked standing up. He finally looked away from the ascendant and looked at me.
"Uh your job is to stay here and get ready to go home."
"What? Kai dont you think I should help you?"
"No. Because I plan to leave here without them, and if they catch on to that, I don't need them using you as leverage. So you won't need to make an appearance until it's time for us to go. Got it?" I crossed my arms.
"You don't think I can defend myself?"
"That's not the point. Nadeen just please trust me. Let me get us home."
"Fine fine whatever." He got up and kissed my cheek.
"I'll see you soon."
I spent the rest of my day worrying about Kai, but thinking about what I'm going to do first when I get out of here. Kai sort of told me about his plan of taking out his coven. He didn't go into detail but I got the gist. I understood why he needed to do it, for closure. And he understood that I want no part in it.
Kai didn't come back until after the eclipse was over for the day. He filled me in on everything.
"Tomorrow should definitely be the day. So make sure you're close by at all times." I nodded.
"Okay." He pulled me close and kissed me softly.
"I have to head back." I nodded understanding. He kissed my head and left the house.
He came back the next day and told me about the tunnels where the spell will be performed. I wasn't to head out until the eclipse started.
Once it was time, I grabbed my bag and my crossbow and headed out to the woods. I followed Kai's directions and found the tunnel. I also found him pulling an axe out his chest.
"What the hell?!" I whisper shouted quickly moving over.
"They thought they killed me. They're trying to leave with out us. Give me that." He said taking my crossbow. He stood up and shook himself off before jumping into the hole.
I followed him and got there just in time to see him shoot an arrow into the girl who I'm assuming is Bon Bon the witch. She dropped the ascendant as she fell. The Damon guy turned around to face Kai.
"Forgetting someone?" He grinned.
"Did you really think I hadn't tried to kill myself before? Because I had. Lots of times lots of ways." He said while reloading the crossbow. I didn't know what to do here. I saw the Damon guy eyeing the ascendant, so I moved to grab it while Kai aimed the crossbow at him.
Damon moved over to Bonnie and pulled the arrow out of her stomach. Kai started to walk towards me, but Damon sped over and knocked me out the way before getting to Kai. That caused me to drop the ascendant.
I stood up and looked for it. I watched as Bonnie used her magic to throw Kai off Damon. She then forced Damon to stand under the light, where I happened to be standing.
The ascendant was close to her, so she grabbed it and threw it at Damon. My eyes widen as I turned to look at Kai.
"Wait no!" Before I could move, I was blinded by a flash of light.
