Chapter 18: She gave her Angels

36 weeks......

Things have been a bit hectic these past few weeks in the Nelson household.Prince had purchased a house of Angelica's choice and furnished it.He even arranged for the nursery to be done before the babies are born.With Dom helping out ,they were able to move out from Paisley Park into their new home,not far from Paisley Park.

Today was October 16th,the day Amiir was born.Angelica noticed Prince wiping off tears and forcing a smile.When she asked him if he was ok,he would say he was fine.But she knew better than to force anything out of him.She sat in the living room with her feet up and Prince laid on her lap.He had exposed her huge belly and constantly kissed and caressed it.He hadn't spoken a word since they were in the living room.Dom entered the living room and found them like that.Angelica wanted to pull down her shirt but Prince stopped her.
"Leave it...please?" He looked at her pleadingly and she left her belly bare.She knew he needed this moment with his babies.
"Good morning lovebirds"
"Good morning " they both answered.Prince did not bother to get up or remove his gaze from his wife's belly.
"Did you sleep well?" He asked without looking up
"Yes I did.Did diva here get any tantrums yet?" She pointed at Angelica.
"No Dom,I did not" Angelica replied,rolling her eyes.
"Well today I'm making breakfast and if anyone tries to throw it on the floor all hell will break loose up in here" Dom answered,winking at Prince and he started to chuckle softly.
"So y'all taking sides now?" Angelica said.
"Nope,but I do want you to know that I am not letting you turn into a diva,even if you're married to a superstar.So if you even try to get all diva and throw a tantrum like that again,I will whup that behind.Got it?"
Rosita ,who just entered the house,interjected:"Sí and I will help you.Yo no tengo pelo en la lengua,so I am not afraid to tell you la verdad.Señor Nelson lo sabe."she said sternly.Angelica started to blink back tears and forced a smile.Prince noticed her change in demeanor and sat up straight, to stroke her hair.
"Alright stop making my wife feel uncomfortable. I appreciate your concern. But she is 9 months pregnant with twins,so cut her some slack okay?She's going through enough without you ganging up on her.You okay mama?"
"Mmhmm" she replied,trying to fight back tears.He pulled her for a tight hug.
"Awww...c'mere baby,just let it out" And Angelica let her tears flow while Prince gently wiped them away.Both Dom and Rosita apologized for ganging up on her.Dom made breakfast and the rest of the morning went smoothly. Prince was extremely quiet today and Angelica saw him blinking back tears occasionally. She knew he needed time alone.
"Honey I know what today means to you and that you need some space.So if you want to be alone,I understand" Prince looked at his wife and kissed her cheeks.
"You sure mama?I don't want you to feel neglected or anything"
"Yeah I'm sure .I have Dom with me ,I'll be fine."
He retreated to his office after kissing his wife and babies to listen to some music.He really needed this time alone because his emotions were all over the place.Per Angelica's wishes,Rosita brought him some lunch around noon ,which he finished.Angelica spent her time talking and occupying herself with her friend and Rosita.Around 4 PM ,Angelica felt a sharp pain in her belly.Dom heard her whimper and asked her:"What's wrong Angie?"
"Cramps...." She hissed.As she tried to get up,her water broke.Dominique knocked on Prince's office door .When he opened,she announced: "Angie's water broke". His eyes grew wide and he bolted out of the office,looking for his wife.He saw her standing at the kitchen counter,clenching her teeth,slightly bent over.He took out his phone and called Dr.Shepard.
" Hello,Dr.Shepard,this is Prince.Angelica's water broke and she's having contractions every ....5 minutes.Okay.We're on our way."
When the call ended he announced:"We need to go to the hospital now."He was so focused on what had to be done ,he didn't realize he did not even comfort her.He tried to stay calm himself ,but his emotions were all over the place.So his only way was to remain focused on the task at hand.He walked off after asking Dom to support Angelica to the bedroom.He quickly took the prepacked bags and placed them in the car.He placed clean clothes for her to wear and helped her take a quick shower.By now Angelica was crying in pain.While he was busy changing his clothes,Angelica felt nelglected.
"Honey,could you hold me please?"
"Angelica,you need to get to the hospital...-" he tried explaining before she cut him off.
"I'm scared..." She whispered with tears in her eyes.He embraced her and gently stroked her hair.
"Don't be mama.God is with you ok?And I'll be right there too" he whispered.She leaned on her husband's chest for a few seconds before she felt another contraction.
"Let's go mama" he urged and they quickly walked to the car.Prince let Darryl drive because he was too nervous to concentrate on the traffic.His wife needed him .Dom was also there,just in case Prince needed to step away.He felt a bit dizzy and emotionally drained,so he did not trust himself. Dr.Shepard was already waiting for them when they arrived.Angelica was placed in a first class private room.The nurse checked her vitals and the babies' as well.
"Mrs.Nelson ,everything looks fine,with you and the babies.Dr.Shepard will be here shortly to check how far you've dialated" the nurse announced.A few minutes later,Dr.Shepard came and did an ultrasound to see how the babies were positioned. Angelica was at 3 cm and now they had to wait for the epidural window.An hour later she was still at 3 cm and Dr.Shepard did not want to take any chances on the health of the babies.
"Prince,we need to perform an emergency C-section to ensure the safety of both Angelica and the babies"
Prince felt his head spinning.This was  a déjà vu moment. It was like every scene from Amiir's birth was replaying itself in the last couple of hours.And he stood there,mute for a few seconds.Angelica saw his face lose color and she knew something was wrong.
"Honey,are you ok?"
"Hmm?yeah yeah." He tried to fake a smile ,but she knew better.They carried her to the O.R.to prepare her for the surgery.The nurse approached Prince and said:"Mr.Nelson ,you have to change into scrubs"That was another déjà vu and he felt sick to his stomach. His head was spinning and he felt like he couldn't breathe.
"Honey?" Angelica called out to him.
"Baby talk to me ,what's wrong?You don't look so good"
He looked at her,panic written all over his face.
"This is how we first met....I can't lose...I-I-I can't..." he stammered as tears streamed down his face.Angelica gently stroked his face and calmed him down.
"Shh...look at me baby" He looked at her and kissed her.She stroked his hair and face until he calmed down.
"Everything will be fine okay?" He nodded ,still teary eyed.She asked the nurse to bring him some water.He changed into scrubs and they proceded with the surgery after giving her epidural.During the procedure,Prince was completely on edge and Dr.Shepard asked him to calm down,because Angelica's bloodpressure was raising,as she was concerned about her husband.He was asked to sit down before he fainted.It was all too much for him to handle.But he wanted to be there for his wife.She needed him.He called Dom to help him out.
"Whoa,you look pale.You ok?"
"Honestly, no .I feel so many things and I need to get myself together. Please take over for me?Tell Angel,I'll be back"
Dom squeezed his arm:"Take your time ,Prince ,she is in good hands .She'll be fine".He started to get teary eyed.
"You think so?"
"I know so.Come here sweetie" and she gave him a tight hug.
"Thanks Dom,I needed that"
About an hour later,Dr.Shepard announced the birth of two healthy babies.When Prince held his son,he sobbed uncontrollably. Angelica got teary eyed too,watching him interact with his children.He walked up to her and kissed her.
"Thank you Angel,you turned the worst day of my life into the best day of my life.Everything is full circle now.Angelica kissed him.
" I love you baby"
"I love you too"

One week later,Angelica was cleared to go home.Prince had made a public announcement of the birth of his twins.They decided to choose royal themed names.
"You ready mama?"
"Yeah"
They each held a baby while Dom wheeled her to the car.Darryl stood next to the car with a big smile.
"Congratulations sir"
"Thanks D.Lets go." And they drove to the place they now called home...
