chapter 2 - exam season

y/n's pov

a week passed swiftly and in a blink of an eye, exams were around the corner. everyone reached the classroom early to study, breaks were used to revise instead of converse, even the loudest students had became engrossed in their studies. i was of course no different. i slept late and woke up early, just to get the most revision possible, however, that also led to days where i couldn't focus in class and almost forgetting to do homework. xukun, on the other hand, was always attentive in class, writing all his notes, doing all his homework and getting enough sleep. 

"y/n are you okay? you always seem very tired recently, you should get more sleep," cheng xiao asked me one monday morning. without leaving my eyes off the past-year exam paper i was doing, i answered, "it's fine. i have to do more revision so i can maintain my good records." xukun, who was sitting beside me, snorted. "what?" i looked up from my exam paper and stared angrily at him. "but your health is more important. you should get more sleep. you won't perform well if you are getting so less sleep," jieqiong added. "guys, i'm gonna be fine. i do this every exam season and i just worked a little harder this time. it's gonna pay off." i assured them before returning to my exam paper. cheng xiao sighed as she looked at me with worried eyes. the day passed with me tiredly writing down notes and half-focused in class. i really wanted to lie down on my comfortable bed and sleep for the rest of the year. i walked back home with my eyes half-opened. after opening the door and plonking down my school bag on my chair, i immediately headed to the bathroom for a steamy shower to clear my mind. after the shower, i felt a lot more refreshed and sat down to check my notifications on my phone.

i smiled to myself as i put my phone down. time to start revision! i flipped out my books and immersed myself in revision for a few hours. soon, the sun began to set and i heard the front door open. it must be my brother who has just graduated university and is now finding a job.

"y/n! come down! i brought food!" he shouted. i laid my books away and rested my eyes for a while before heading downstairs. i was greeted by sushi platters on the dining table. "thanks bro," i said while washing my hands, preparing to eat. i mostly always skipped dinner as i was too lazy to cook or to buy something and would rather study, y/b/n also almost always ate outside so our house was always very quiet. our parents were in new york handling some business and wouldn't be back in a month so the big house was left to us.

"so, how's school?" y/b/n asked before stuffing his mouth with a sashimi sushi. "not much happened, just got assigned a desk partner," i answered. "desk partner? is she nice?" he asked. "well, not "she" but rather "he". he's rather weird and we haven't communicated lots but i could tell that he's really obnoxious," i said. y/b/n frowned a little before asking, "he doesn't have any weird habits right?" "i didn't hear of any yet, but i do know he hates fangirls, messy desks, people who eat messily, dirty places and almost everything," i rolled my eyes after saying, reminded of the many times where he scolded me for having a messy desk. "maybe he has OCD?" y/b/n suggested. i shrugged before opening a can of soda and gulping it down. 

after dinner, i went back to my room for another round of revision before heading to bed. however, the revision lasted a few hours and it was almost 2 am before i could finally fall asleep fitfully. 

author's notes

been so long since i've updated, i've had lots of things going around me and school will be starting in january so there's actually not much time for me to prepare for the new school year. i don't know how busy i'll be next year so i'll update you guys when i get my schedule.
