"Mimi." Lailah called her.
No response.
"Mimi, come on." She tried again but saw no movement under the blanket.
Their mother was overjoyed that her daughter was going to marry into the royal family, her father was happy that he would be able to give his daughter away to someone who could truly cherish her, for the treasure she was, a prince.
Her mother also said that Micah's worry was just pre-wedding jitters.
Seeing this reaction Micah felt helpless and stormed out of the room shouting that no one understood her.
"Tell me then, what is the problem? Is there someone else you wish to wed?" Lailah asked.
Micah threw away her blanket, "No, thats not it. I always knew I was going to have an arranged marriage and I would've gladly married him because we can fall in love AFTER marriage, at first the most important thing is understanding," she rambled on, "But.. him? Why him?" She looked like she was about to cry again.
"Well he does have an exceptionally impressive reputation.." Lailah agreed.
"I dont think impressive is the right word, he's called The Human Sword, Sword Tongue, Angel of death!" She cried, "Almost no one calls him Prince Fane."
She fell back onto the bed and groaned into the pillow.
"He's also called The Protector of our island. And just because he is a ferocious general and a great fighter doesnt mean he'll hurt you too." Lailah said.
"But I'm still scared.. not of him, for him. What if when I fall in love with him, he dies in battle." Micah muttered.
"And you remember the Lonely Goblin story?"
Lailah shook her head no.
"A hundred years ago, there were three men who were the biggest sinners of that century and God punished them severely. There was the young King who killed innocent people and his own queen because of his doubts of disloyalty, the second sinner was the advisor who planted the doubts in the King's mind and urged him to kill those people, and the third was his General, now called, the lonely goblin, who went to fight a war and ended up killing more than two hundred men of the enemy's army. He was the best at his job, and he killed so many soldiers in all those wars that he was punished by God for his ruthlessness and the blood of many on his hands and he was given eternal life.
He was to live forever and never to forget the deaths of his loved ones."
"Well the lonely goblin wasn't married to my sister now was he." Lailah smiled and caressed Micah's hair.
"You can help him or rather change him. No one can deny that beautiful heart of yours, and this gorgeous face." Lailah said soothingly.
Micah pouted,
"But.." Lailah started, "Why you? He's a Prince, brother of the King! The General of Corona, why would the King ask for your hand? I'm sure he could have any other Princess." Lailah thought outloud.
"I'm not going to get offended because yes he's a Prince, and yes I've thought about that the whole way home and I can't figure it out." Micah heaved into the pillow.
"Well, you are the prettiest girl in our village," Lailah offered.
"He can have any girl on the whole island. I'm sure there are prettier girls." Micah stated.
"And you're very smart."
"How on earth would Prince Fane know that."
"Oh forget it, maybe this is the universe's gift to you for being so kind." Lailah smiled.
Micah sighed and hugged Lailah, "I can't believe I'm getting married next week."
"You'll make a wonderful princess."
