The year was 1993 and my time serving in the military was coming to an end, I wanted to settle down and start a family of my own. Be the dad that takes their son to all his football games, the dad that takes their daughter to all her dance lessons. The dad that would be their to protect them from all the harmful things in this world. I knew that I wouldn't be able to do that if I continued to serve. I would miss all my child's first moments because of duties calls. That is why I took my leave.
I was excited that I get to go home and see my beautiful family. I didn't even tell them I was coming home. I wanted it to be a surprise, I wanted to see the shock on their faces the tears of joy that cascaded down there faces when I walked through the door and yelled my arrival. They gave me hope that one day when I start a family of my own that we would be cheerful and grateful and know that we are each other's anchors.
