My attention was pulled towards the distant hum of a mustang. Shivering, I pulled my pastel pink cardigan over my petite shoulders, protecting myself from the cold, dark night. I kept a steady pace towards the sound of the engine.

I picked up the pace and began jogging towards the growing noise, my eyes fixed ahead of me. As I turned the corner, I pricked up my ears, because I was now in greasers territory.

At the end of the block my eyes averted towards a glimmering light reflecting off a red vehicle.

As I ran closer to it, the sound of loud shouts and bangs overwhelmed my senses. I was about 20 yards away when I spotted my brother and his pals sat in the mustang.

Once I got closer to them, I saw a gang of greasers surrounding the car. Suddenly, I felt like turning around and going home. It felt like my duty to help my brother though, so I put on a brave face and slowed to quick walk and grew closer to the scene.

"Hey darlin'. You lost? What can I do for ya sweetheart?" Asked one of the greasers as I approached them. All the greasers laughed as my cheeks turned a tomato coloured red.

Everyone turned there attention towards me as the greaser who'd previously asked me the question put a hand around my waste.

Bob jumped out the convertible and pushed the greaser off of me.

"Get off my sister you dirty pervert." He spat at the boy, who couldn't have been older than about 17.

Before I knew it, a greaser in a leather jacket pulled out his switchblade and stumbled towards my brother and I, murmuring threats.

Bob reached into the back pocket of his khakis and flipped his blade too.

In a matter of seconds, almost every teenager had a knife of some kind in their hands, as they parted onto two sides of the car. Greasers on one side, socs on the other.

I was lost somewhere in the middle. Everything seemed to move in slow motion. I'd never seen a fight before, let alone been involved in one.

My heart thumped in my chest at what felt like a million miles an hour. My breathing grew heavy. My legs were like jelly.

I dont remember what happened after that.
