“Bell! Bell! Bell baby,” The mysterious woman started. “listen, we have to run, okay?
Everythings okay, it’s just, Mommy and Daddy have to go somewhere, okay?” A loud crash can be heard outside, shaking the room. She wraps her arms around me and says, “Listen, I’m going to Phase you somewhere far away from here. I love you Bell.” A banging can be heard on the door, followed by a voice shouting:
“Yulanna! Come outside now! You have nowhere else to run to!” The woman puts her arms around me again, squeezing me. Then, she whispers something into my ear.
“The blue skies fall,
and the blue skies rise.
The strong wolf’s call,
start with the young pup’s cries.
You have a warrior’s spirit,
and hope in your eyes.
So howl and we’ll hear it,
and we’ll look to the sky.
To see the blue skies fall,
and the blue skies rise.”
Suddenly I’m enveloped in a warm light, and I feel as if I’m drifting away.
“WAIT, MOM!-” I shout awake, Sylva sitting next to me. She places her hand on my back.
“That dream again?” she asks.
“Yeah, I saw a little more this time.” I respond, wiping tears from my eyes.
She looks out the window and asks: “Do you think that’s really what happened? I mean, how you got here?”
“To be honest,” I start. “I really don’t know. Sometimes I feel like it actually happened, and other times I feel like it’s just that little kid in me, still hoping for something more than just, ‘I got left’. Ya know?”
“I getcha Bell.” She reassures me. “Hey, look,” she starts, placing her hand on my cheek. “you’re a good kid. No matter what happened or where you came from, that doesn’t change, does it?”
“I guess not…” I softly reply. “Hey Sylv?”
“What’s up Bellum?”
I pause for a moment, and feel a tear rolling off my cheek. “Why don’t I belong anywhere?” Sylva burst into tears before lunging into my with a massive hug.
“You do Bell, you do! Don’t you ever question that!” She practically screams at me. “You belong here, Bell. With me, with us! We’re here for you!”
“Promise?” I ask.
“Of course Bell.”
After that, we sat there for a while, Sylva still holding on to me, listening to the sounds of the outdoors. Suddenly I had a strong urge to sing the lullaby.
“The blue skies fall,
and the blue skies rise.
The strong wolf’s call,
start with the young pup’s cries.
You have a warrior’s spirit,
and hope in your eyes.
So howl and we’ll hear it,
and we’ll look to the sky.
To see the blue skies fall,
and the blue skies rise.”
“That was beautiful Bell.” Sylva says. “Where’d you learn it?”
“I heard it in the dream, it’s the last thing my mom said before I woke up.” I explain.
“Well, that must mean it’s really important then, right?” She suggests, nudging my arm.
“Yeah,” I start, looking towards the sky. “you know what Sylv?”
“What’s up?”
“I may not know much about my past,” I start, looking back down to face her. “but I’m really glad I got to meet you. You mean a lot to me, and I owe you a lot of thanks. So, thank you, for everything.”
“Bell,” Sylva starts. “I-”
“BORA!” Someone yells, just outside the house. “COME OUT NOW!”
“Who the hell is that?” Sylva asks, rising and grabbing her bronze dagger.
“Guess we gotta find out.” I answer, following her lead and grabbing my steel kukri.
