Chapter Six: Returned To The Locked Rooms You Call A House

It was another Kindergarten day and Nugget's book nearly jumped out of his hands when Billy sat next to him at lunch.

"Hey, Nugget. Sorry about not being your buddy during Morning Time, it's just that me and Lily are usually buddies."

"Nugget is fine without a buddy! Nugget has been on his own for a while!"

"That's.....sad."

"Why isn't Billy eating with his sister?"

"Oh. She.....she wants to be alone today. Her goldfish died this morning and she wants to mourn in peace."

"Nugget understands."

Billy looked away to unpack a brown sack that he'd retrieved from his backpack. He unwrapped a sandwich and took a large bite, when his eyes returned back to Nugget he only then saw the lack of food on the table.

"Aren't you going to eat? Have you already ate? It's pretty early into lunch so you must have eaten quickly."

"Nugget doesn't like the slop."

"The slop? Is that the liquid thing on some other kid's lunch trays?"

Nugget nodded, "the slop is truly nauseating, so Nugget just usually goes without."

".......without? Like without lunch?"

"Billy is correct, that is what Nugget means."

"You can't just NOT EAT lunch! Here! I'll split my sandwich with you! It's turkey and cheese, you don't have any allergies right?"

"Nugget doesn't, and Billy doesn't have to only eat half of his food. Nugget will be fine."

"Here," Billy insisted, already placing half a sandwich into Nugget's hand, "I really don't mind. Just eat it."

Before Nugget could protest again, Billy already returned his attention to his half-sandwich. Nugget started at the food item before taking a bite and then another. The two friends ate independently until Billy broke the silence.

"You're doing it again Nugget."

"What is Nugget doing?"

"You're staring at my sister! Creepily!"

"Nugget is.....creepy..?"

"Lily seems to think you are!"

"Oh. Nugget doesn't want to scare the Pretty Lily-"

"What did you just say?"

"Lily. Nugget said Lily."

"No! You said something else! You called her the "PRETTY Lily!""

"But- Nugget thinks Lily is very pretty."

"Is that why you keep staring at her? Because you think she's pretty?"

"Yes. Whenever Nugget looks at the Pretty Lily he feels like he's going to throw up."
