The cockatiel is known as the miniature cockatoo, weero, and quarrion. They are normally pets but some of them are wild and have freedom throughout the land of Australia. By the way, the cockatiel is from Australia.

Their life span can reach up to 25 years, though the standard is 15. The mass of a large adult cockatiel is 90 g. Did you know that the cockatiels are sexually mature anywhere between 12-24 months old?

The male cockatiels are better at talking and whistling than the other females. In the wild, male cockatiels use sounds to attract females.
Cockatiels can be considered the most widely kept parrot, other than the parakeet or the budgie.

Once out of the cage the cockatiel will often fly to your shoulder to perch.
They may nibble down on your hair and fiddle with it. Or they may try to coach your eyebrows.

Cockatiels do bite, but physical affection should feel gentle rather than painful.
When they get wet they usually shudder the water off their feathers.

That's one bath option you can do. But the other one is mostly just setting up a bath with only a little water and let them roam around to get wet.

Maybe lift some water out of the bathtub then sprinkler it on your cockatiel. Feeding cockatiels is fairly easy but when they notice that you're taking their seed away, they will get overprotected of it.

Then they will start to gnaw at you with their beak. If you want to take the seed out effortlessly without getting hurt, obey the following steps:

1. First, show your cockatiel that you're on their side.

2. Slowly carry the food out of its holder and pack it up with seed.

3. Deliberately return it back to the holder.
Then gradually take your hand out of the cage and unhurriedly latch the cage door shut, therefore you don't frighten them.

When your cockatiel fluff's up their feathers, it means that they feel satisfied with the area that encircles them.

Some house cockatiels are very affectionate to their guardians. But wild cockatiels are very cautious about their surroundings in the wild.
You know kids nowadays, they will chase birds, if they're on the ground. Birds and cockatiels are born with knowledge about humans.

In their minds: "Humans are terrifying creatures that chase us around when we are just trying to get food and survive." The cockatiel's minds is the same.

Sometimes my mind wanders off about
birds. Are we helping them or are we ignoring them?

Thank you for reading until the end. I know it was short, you weren't looking for a short non-story related documentary.

But I was inspired when I rescued my first bird. He was a Townsend Solitaire. He had a broken wing. We took him to a bird vet. He inspired me to write about what I love. I loved cockatiels and birds together.
