The colonist identity and unity grew before and during the Revolution. They showed unity in politics, diplomatic, economic and social. The colonist showed the most unity closer toward the war.

In the political cartoon Join, or Die by Franklin shows that the colonies need to unite together in order to survive, he is stating that the colonies are weak separated but strong together. which in the case represents the snake in which it needs all parts to survive.(doc.2) In 1754 the Albany Plan failed and the Americans participated in the war against the French. After the war the British government started to tax the colonies without representation. In 1754 twelve delegates out of thirteen showed up in the First Continental Congress in Pennsylvania. The ideal of the congress was to come together and discuss the problems it has with the British.(doc.3) The Declaration of Independence in 1776 declared that the crown and Parliament are being unfair and depriving them in many freedoms such as connections of foreign nations through trade.(doc.4) That also they are getting slammed by taxes in which they have not approved threw an abled body government.(doc.4) In other cases that British supporters will not be tried in the colonies but in England which deprives them of fair trials in the colonies(doc.4) With the political unrest and the unfairness of taxes the colonies started to boycott the British goods(doc.6) the colonies know that England won't respond to the letters of demand so the only way to be heard is through the purses of English merchants.(doc.6) This was also used in the 19th century against the British when they wouldn't respect their neutral rights.

The recruiting poster for the Continental Army, made by the Americans, is to form an army and inform the colonist of what British solders look like. This poster is showing the stress between the colonies and motherland. So that America can fight for their freedom on the battlefield (doc.1). The French and Indian war also known as The Seven Year war, was an example of diplomatic unity among the colonies and Great Britain because they were both working together against the French and Indians(doc.2). The delegates came together and discussed the issues they were having with the British and how the colonist were going to fix the problems (doc.3). Then after that the Founding Fathers came together to write the Declaration of Independence. They wrote this document to declare their independence from Great Britain (Doc.4).The French and colonial troops marched to Yorktown to defeat the British. This battle was the most important battle in the Revolutionary War because the british are starting to think that the colonist might actually when the war. The colonist are starting to show unity as they work together for a common goal (doc.5). Once that the American are winning the war more and more colonist are wanting to join the Continental Army. So the colonies are sending soldiers to fight in the war against the British (doc.7).

The advertisement for the Continental Army appealed to men because most men want to be categorized as brave, healthy, abled bodies and young (doc.1). The colonist decided to boycott British goods until the Intolerable Acts were repealed. The Intolerable Acts were acts that the British gave the colonist because of the Boston Tea Party (doc.3). The Declaration of Independence dealt with the colonist so therefor it is considered sociocultural. This Document is so the colonies can earn their freedom (doc.4). In the Battle of Yorktown the colonist and French troops are working together to fight the British (doc.5). The French didn't want to become an ally with the colonies until they could prove that they could win. So while Benjamin Franklin was in Paris he tried to convince the French government that it was a good idea to help the Colonies. After the Battle of Saratoga the French finally joined the American alliance.

I believe if the colonist never showed unity as one nation we would still be the 13 colonies and be under the control of the British. The bravery that the Americans showed against the British is what made the United States of America. The colonists showed unity in politics, diplomatic, economic and social.
