Silent Nights

Pulling out of the dirt road from Eirikr's house, she plays his voice on a loop:

I love you, I love you, I love you...

She's heard it many times before, but Blue is in a weird mood tonight, and the voice of the man she loves is sitting differently. It reminds her of better times, when they were together: when he (and most importantly she) was considered worry free to the older versions of themselves, when on the last day of school he looked her in her eyes so sure of them and said those same words. It wasn't the first time he had said it, but this time she said it back, finally being sure that she would mean it.

When she turns the corner, out of sight of the eyes who would care, she pulled out her American Spirits and lit one, the first burn tasting bad. She didn't mind the way it made her nose crinkle up though: it was familiar, and her craving was soon quenched as the nicotine laced it's way into her head. The drive home was a quick one from her friend's house, so she passes her house, and drives up the empty roads built behind it that were still waiting for houses to bring traffic. She drives to a cul de sac, and parks her car. A local country station is turned on softly, and Blue watches the cigarette burn as she takes another drag. Thoughts fill her head as she stops being distracted by her vehicles course, and the ones that surface are finally pleasant compared to the ones that usually dance around at night.

Her hand hangs out of her rolled down window, and she focuses on the vision she has through her side mirror: the lights of her town gently hue her cigarette, and as the nicotine swirls around in her head, she breathes in the chilly November air, and smiles at the whiff of rain she catches. The stress of work finally falls off, and she finishes her dart with a warm feeling: a single, welcomed thought.

Things might be alright.
