A girl walks beside her mom, swinging their arms, hands intertwined. She looks up at her mother and gives her a toothed smile, revealing two of her teeth that had been gone this month. Her mother smiled gently down at her child.

She was a blessing. Her one hope. Back then she was not allowed to work, being the housewife, she continued to clean after her husband, her daughter and herself. She dreamt of working but her freedom was not granted. In this small house, her daughter grew, vibrant and full of life. But to her, it was barely life. It was a jail.

She turned her head as she heard knocking at the door, pulling her out of her thoughts. She picked up her daughter, and neared the door slowly. The night was dark, and there was no light visible. Even the stars were not visible tonight. As there was no one at the door, the mother slowly moved from the door only to hear the knocking again. She bit her lip and fixed the scarf around her neck ready to open the door until she heard the phone ring.

She picked up the red phone by the coffee table and whispered, "Hello?"

A voice roared from the side of the phone, frightening her causing her to take a step back, "GET OUT OF THE HOUSE, THEY ARE COMING!!! GO THROUGH THE BACK DOOR"

She tightened her grip on her daughters waist as she stuttered, "Who is coming?"

The man spoke again, "Go Melissa. Take Lucy and go"

Melissa recognized the voice immediately and started to pack her things after letting her daughter down. Lucy started to wail loudly. Melissa hushed her, "Shh my sweet love, Papa will be home soon. We need to go out okay?"

Melissa's brown eyes shone with tears as she held her daughter really tightly in an embrace and told her to stay in a corner while she ran to get help.

Tumbling and out of breath, the men with dark hoods reached for her and grabbed her, "Ms. Moretti? You need to come with us."

Melissa struggled against their grasp remembering Lucy and sobs, "P-please let me go. I will do anything but leave. I need to stay here."

Her small frame trembled under their harsh, unmerciful gazes as they pushed her arms behind her back and took her into the black tinted car never to be seen again.
