warnings: angst, short—
a/n: overhaul arc never happens (overhaul never exists)
It's been two years.
Two years without your smile, two years without feeling your warmth against him in bed.
Two long, grueling years of raising a baby girl by himself.
...and it's been two years since he cried.
Mirio never cried.
It wasn't in his blood — it simply wasn't something he could do, especially with how life was for him — he had a great life, so why cry? He could use that energy to smile and laugh instead, and spread positivity in a positivity-lacking world.
Ah.
But then you died.
Mirio remembered watching it live on television. You, a pro hero, fighting against an extremely powerful villain that hadn't quite been identified yet. He remembers holding your baby in his arms, dark eyes glued to the screen.
He remembers his heart dropping when you got struck in the face by the villain.
He remembers screaming out when you fell, fell to the ground like you weighed nothing.
Mirio remembers liquid rushing down his cheeks, warm and salty, fists clenched at his sides as your child wailed at her father's rage and grief.
Why was it like this? Why did the world strive to separate the two of you?
The two of you were a power couple — known for being the two heroes that were on the very top — a couple team. You guys were unbeatable, but... that wasn't the case anymore.
Mirio regrets not going out on hero duty with you. He regrets not taking your hand when you looked over your shoulder as you walked through the door, a playful glint in your eyes, smile wide.
He regrets not being there to save you.
