Per his word, Guzma was not upset when ________ sent him out around 8:30 last night. He had stayed and made sure ________ had eaten a full meal and drank plenty of water, and afterwords they had both settled on the couch, though not beside one another, and watched reruns of old anime before yawns began to escape ________'s mouth.
"Aight, I can see you're getting tired. I'll let you be so you can rest now." He had said, tossing a blanket over them before taking his leave, and half-awake, ________ could barely muster a thank-you before dozing off.
Today, ________ made their way back to the same tree from the other day, breathing in the salt-water breeze as they listened to the waves crash against the rocky shores below.
"Aye, punk! Battle- oh... you that punk who challenged the boss the other day." A blue grunt, marching up beside the tree, ready to pick a fight, but dropped the act when he saw it was ________.
"I'll whip your ass, don't think that just because I lost to your boss, that I'll lose to you as well." ________ groaned, annoyed as they began to take out their pokemon.
"Nah, don't sweat it. Boss says Team Skull ain't gotta battle you no more. Said something bout you being one of us or some shit..." the grunt sat himself below the tree, not exactly next to ________, but close enough to carry conversation.
"You really believe that? That I'm one of you?"
"Boss's directions were pretty clear. He said he dubbed you an honorary member of Team Skull. Team Skull only fights one another to train and get stronger. We don't fight family, yo. So I ain't gonna battle ya. Wouldn't want the boss being all mad at me and shit because of a misunderstanding, ya feel?" The grunt said, releasing his pokemon and giving them a few pokebeans.
"So you guys are just gonna...leave me alone?"
"Nah, boss says we still get to bother and bug ya. We just can't battle ya."
"Of course he did." ________ spat, becoming more frustrated.
"You acting like it's a bad thing we coming pick on you. Far as I can tell, you really need friends right now-"
"God damn! How much did that boss of yours tell you?!"
"N-nothing! You seem super lonely and angry all the time. Boss sees it, everyone sees it. We got a lot of people like you in Team Skull. Can't blame a brother for wanting to extend a helping hand to someone who needs it. "
"And what if I don't want the help?"
"Then you're probably someone who wants to lead a lonely life, fam. No friends, no significant other, nothing? Does that really sound like a life that you wanna lead?" He asked, putting away his pokemon, as ________ stood, gathering their things.
"Where you goin'?"
"Nunya." _______ replied, their voice curt.
"Nunya?"
"Nunya business."
"Aight, fine... But if you ever wanna stop by Team Skull's place, we're located in Po Town. Can't miss Shady House." he said, watching as you gathered your things.
"Why in the fuck would I do that?"
"Everyone needs a friend sometimes, yo. I may be a Grunt, but you can all me Jay. If you wanna talk, you can ask for me, or the boss if you'd rather. Team Skull gotcha back. Boss wanted us to tell you that..." he trailed off, watching as ________ rose, bag in hand.
"Thanks, I guess...I'll see you around, Jay." ________ mumbled, heading down the hill. On their way down, their foot caught a rock, sending them tumbling down. They stopped almost as soon as they started, a hand grasping their elbow, preventing gravity from sending them all the way down a hill.
