Sleepwalking - Bring Me the Horizon

"Time stands still, the way it did before. It's like I'm sleepwalking..."

You'd think that after a few years of not caring for someone, they'd slip right out of your mind.

Wrong.

You'd also think that you'd forget all about your high school crushes after you graduate high school.

Wrong again.

Truth is, you can never stop caring about someone, no matter how hard you try. And you can even more definitely never forget someone - every face is etched into your mind whether you think of them often or not. And chances like this don't come often.

"Austin!" I yelled. No effect. I stuggled to make my voice louder than the bass. "Austin!!" He looked at me. He slowly started making his way over to me, all the while singing whatever song it was he was singing.

I smiled up at him - God, he was gorgeous. Not the type of gorgeous like you think he'd be a Hollister model, but the type of gorgeous where you have to think, 'God really spent his damn time making this one'. Austin looked down at me and winked - he fucking winked - and held up a finger and nodded. I licked my lips and waited patiently for the set to be over.

-----

After his band had finished and another no one's ever heard of got on stage, Austin came trotting down the steps to me.
"Hey!" The closer he came, the more I noticed he was drenched in sweat. He noticed my observation.
"Occupational aversion," he laughed.
"I see."
We kinda stood in an awkward silence and made small talk here and there.
"Soooo..." I started. "You're in a band! Awesome."
"Yeah, I mean, we aren't exactly doing too good funds-wise, but you know."
"I don't know, actually, because I'm not in a band."
"Well," Austin's brown puppy eyes looked up at me. "We could use a manager..." I waited for him to continue. "Of course, the pay wouldn't be very high. I mean, not yet at least." He smirked. He twisted his mouth up like he knew that some day he'd make it big.
"Thanks for the offer, but I just started school, and--"
"Oh! Oh, no it's fine I understand," he looked defeated.
"No no!" I said. "I'd love to, but the schedules may be a bit hectic because of all this."
"Well we could work it out," he shuffled the gravel beneath us with his feet. After a pause he said, "Hey, you know what? How about we go catch up. I mean, we haven't talked since High School, and we really didn't talk much then." This was true. I was the biggest loser in my entire school, and Austin.... well, he was the bad boy every girl fantasizes about.
"Yeah, sure," I was trying to be casual, but not too casual, and all I felt was awkward.
"Well, I've got to load the equipment and sleep off the hangover I'm sure to have," he smiled at the last comment. "But how 'bout we meet up next weekend, yeah?"
"Sounds good! But like, what time and all that?"
"Don't worry love, I'll swing by and pick you up. Here, I'll give you my number to give you a heads up." I took out my phone and entered his number.
"Alright, so I'll see you later?" I smiled.
"Of course, see ya."
And with that, Austin Lake jogged out of sight and into a rusty green van with "The Katherine Plague" horribly spray painted on the side.
