The King had been in search of an advanced healer for quite some time now. He was desperate. He had tried everything he knew was possible. Every one he had encountered wasn't enough. They couldn't fix his mother who desperately needed his help. The King couldn't lose her, it was his last family member besides his siblings. He had enough loss in his life, he wasn't about to stop unless he found a solution.

It would have been a lonely life without his mother by his side. All the conflict he had experienced, the turmoil, the torture. His kingdom was on the brink of collapse when his father had passed away. He wasn't the best King, he was selfish and had put his pack in danger, he put his kingdom in danger. He was never trusted , but his power proved that no other could defeat him. Until the day it happened.

Ares, The King was forced upon the throne when he was 16 years old. He was forced to clean up the mess his father had left behind. HIs recklessness left the Kingdom scared, and hopeless. A 16 year old king, people dying, towns being destroyed. They needed a leader, but did they need him?

The King would have never been able to survive those young years without his mother. She was younger then , in her 80's but still young. Now she was in her 100's, and the age was catching up with her. She was sick, coughing often, and unable to get out of bed as often as usual. The color in her irises were beginning to turn white, the natural symbol of death in the wolves. She was dying now. As Royals, time was easier on the Royal Family. It's almost like mother nature recognized the regal blood their veins. Mother Nature recognized the good the Royal Family did for her people, the good these people had in them . Mother Nature allowed them to live longer, to preserve and bring her people and her land happiness and peace.

His mother being one of them. His mother, Alice, had spent so many of those years acting as the King's Royal Advisor. She was his right hand man, and being his mother, they got along well. They ruled the Kingdom perfectly fine without his Queen. To what the King thought. He knew his people longed for a Queen for their King. They made due with his mother. The people adored Alice, and had since the previous King had passed and been defeated. The people still longed. The King longed when no one watched.

Ares bitterly stared out the window. His Queen. There was no queen for Ares. And there never would be. Mother Nature had punished him for his father's evil reign on him. She feared Ares was just like his father. She couldn't punish the dead, but she could punish The King. She prevented the Moon Goddess from performing her duty and pairing the King with his Queen. It wasn't fair, but it was the order she wanted. Mother Nature had cursed Ares when she linked his mate with his father's life that day.

He had to make a choice. And he chose his Kingdom, he couldn't be selfish like his father was. He had to live with his choice everyday. It killed him to think he killed his own mate to save his kingdom. He had never even gotten the chance to meet his mate before he had to make the grave decision at 16. He hadn't reached Wolf Maturity. Many she-wolves died that day, but he never got the chance to meet his Queen.

But his people knew of his choice. His people respected him immensely. They adored their King. They knew their new King was selfless, unlike their last. The people know their King would put them first, and make sure they were happy. Crime was low in The Kingdom, all had a sense of pride and compassion for each other. Its like they were still riding the high from switching leadership. Their children and grandchildren would not have to endure the pain and suffering they had to before. They raised respectful pups and wolves. It was a prosperous Kingdom.

All except for the King. Ares was always alone. His mother was by his side, but now she was dying. And it pained him.

He turned from the window, looking at his sleeping Mother. She awaited the healer this time. It was getting close to the end, but Ares refused to give up.
