I spend the rest of the weekend nursing a category five hangover. When I woke up on Saturday it felt like I'd been run over by a semi. I felt like shit.
Still, I can't deny it wasn't an amazing night.
That, and I can't seem to get my mind off Winston.
"I can't believe you didn't get his number," Vienna chastens me. Her eyes are closed as she floats backward in the pool water. It's Sunday afternoon and we're relaxing in my rooftop pool, catching a few rays of sun and sipping mimosas.
When I don't respond she continues talking.
"Want me to get his number from Danny?"
"Absolutely not."
"Why?!"
"Because he's Winston King. His sister is freaking Cecilia King and their dad is Norman King. They're damn near royalty. There's no way I stand a chance."
"That does not sound like the Kennedy I know."
"I'm just being realistic," I raise my glasses and look at Vienna. She opens her eyes and looks back at me. "Besides, I'm sticking to my original plan."
"Which is?"
"I'm going to marry a senator."
She scoffs. "Oh yeah. That. Well what about that kiss?"
"I thought we agreed never to talk about that."
"No, you agreed never to talk about it. I never agreed to such a thing."
"It meant nothing. It was just a birthday gift." I touch my lips remembering, then sigh. I'll probably never be kissed like that ever again in my life.
"But-"
"What is this, an interrogation?" I sit up slightly from my recliner. "How about I grill you instead. What's going on between you and Danny, huh?"
"Nothing. We're just friends."
I roll my eyes. "Yeah. Like I haven't heard that one before. How'd you meet him anyway?"
"At a nightclub when I snuck out one night."
"Was this before or after the fake IDs?"
"Before. I had to use finesse to sneak my way inside. Thank God we have those fake IDs now. Anyway he offered to buy me a drink and he was hot so I said why not?"
"You know, usually when a guy offers to buy you a drink it ends up as an episode on Dateline."
"True. Then we started talking for a little bit before he asked me to dance. When I was about to leave he asked for my number."
"How old is he?"
"Twenty-one.
"Hmmm," I take a sip of my drink. "Older guys are so much hotter."
Vienna laughs. "Well I'm glad you like them, because the majority of United State senators are old, white men. Hope you're ready to spend the rest of your life with a one minute missionary man."
I narrow my eyes at her and she's gives me an innocent look before closing her eyes again.
Bitch.
