Alex woke me up as soon as she was finished with Lena.
"Hey Kara wake up!"
She said shaking me gently.
I was immediately taken back to my worries about Lena.
"How is she? Will she be okay? Please don't tell me she's dead!"
"She's not dead!" Alex answered.
Oh thank God or Rao or whoever, I thought but by Alex's expression I could tell Lena's not good either.
" But?..."
"She's stable...for now, but I don't know for how long." Alex said the last part very quite. " She has multiple broken bones with internal and external bleeding. She has lost a lot of blood!"
"Oh, no no no no. She can't die. Isn't there something we can do? Please can I see her?"
"Yes you can see her! But I'm afraid there's nothing we can do for now!"
Alex helped me up and we lead me to Lena. She was lying on a medical bed, neat tucked up. If it wasn't for the raising and lowering of her stomach, one could think she's dead. I ran towards her with tears in my eyes. As soon as I reached her I took her hand in mine and whispered to her: "Lena! Please don't go, I need you! I love you!" Alex laid a hand on my shoulder to comfort me. I turned around to face her, still holding Lenas Hand.
"Alex! Is there really nothing we could do? We have to do something!" I said desperately.
Alex sights and telling by her expression what she's about to say is everything but good.
"Look Kara, we did everything we could do, but she lost a whole lot of blood and she has a very rare blood type. We couldn't find any available donations of it. And even if we did we wouldn't know if her body would accept the blood. It's a miracle she's still alive. Most humans wouldn't survive a explosion like this. I am so sorry, It's only a question of time when she dies."
"No Alex, don't say that!" I cried and desperately held onto Lenas hand. Alex hugged me from behind and tried to comfort me.
"You know, she was my friend too! I'll miss her too!" She rubbed my back soothingly.
Than I got an Idea: "I could fly around the world and look for the right blood type! What's her blood type?" I was already half out of the door, filled with new found hope, when Alex stopped me: "Wait! I also thought about this but Brainy said that the odds for you finding the right blood type and getting it to Lena before she dies were 0, 000028%, so nearly impossible."
I went back to Lenas bed, clearly defeated. Than I got another Idea: "What if we give her my blood. Once you said my blood is very compatible!"
"Actually...that's a good idea! Quick I have to run some tests. Why didn't I think of that?"
We quickly ran to the lab. As we passed Maggie, who was waiting outside of Lenas room Alex told her: "You watch Lena, I think we can save her!" And then we were around the corner and left a startled Maggie with Lena.
Alex quickly took a blood sample of my blood with a Kryptonite covered needle and tested it of its compatibility with a already present sample of Lenas blood. Suddenly Alex let out a squeal, that frightened me.
"What is it?"
"Your blood cells turn Lenas into Kryptonian ones! But they keep functioning."
" What does that mean? Can we give her my blood?"
"Yes we can, but she probably will turn into a Kryptonian!"
"She won't die, will she?"
"Probably not! It's her only chance!"
"So we'll give her my blood!"
"Yes but we need the consent of a next of kin!"
"And who will that be? Do I have to convince Lilian?" Oh I hope not, but I would do everything to save Lena!
"Wait, let me check her file....Actually we need your consent!"
"What?" I was surprised.
" Yes here it stands! You are the one, who gets to make the decision when it comes to live or death!"
"Great! I give my consent! Now lets go!"
Alex made me sign a form that I agree to this medical treatment and than she started taking blood from me and giving it to Lena.
