San was nonchalantly scrolling through his Instagram as a frustrated groan resonated from the kitchen. It was nine o'clock in the evening and while San was lounging around on the couch doing nothing to rid himself of his boredom, Jongho had been trying to memorize lines for the past hour. Apparently, it didn't seem to go too well for his younger brother.
"Anything I can help you with?" San asked, just loud enough for Jongho to understand in the other room. He could hear the rustling of paper, then a deep sigh.
"I'm fine, thank you. I'll just continue with this tomorrow. It won't get better than this today anyway."
"I'm sure it will turn out alright." San sincerely answered. Jongho was surprisingly mature for his age and possessed the handy ability of knowing his own limits. His schedule was perfectly timed to his own needs and whenever it threatened to overwhelm him he found a way to balance work and rest. In this case, it was to continue the next day, he would simply have to take enough time before his first training session at HQ Entertainment to finish going through his lines. Sometimes San was a little envious of these abilities, he himself found it rather hard to establish a well-balanced routine and he often either overworked himself or let himself relax too long until the pressure hit him like a wrecking ball.
The two boys fell into comfortable silence, each one busy on his own social media account. San read through his comments, his expression changing from heartfelt smiles to annoyed frowns and to almost laughing out loud. Eventually he pocketed his phone and made his way to the kitchen where he found his brother longingly staring at his phone.
"What happened to you?" he asked trying to hold back his laughter while pouring himself a glass of water.
Jongho pouted. "Nothing. Only that my favourite group had a fansign and I couldn't attend."
San curiously raised an eyebrow. He was aware of Jongho's not so secret admiration of this one K-pop idol group, however, he seemed to have missed how much they really meant to him. "Don't dwell on it. You'll get a chance next time."
"Yes, I'll make sure of that," Jongho determinedly straightened his shoulders. "You can bet on it."
"I won't."
San emptied his glass in one gulp then put it down onto the kitchen table spontaneously deciding to clean it up tomorrow. He was just about to walk out of the kitchen when Jongho started talking again.
"Just look at how cute Hongjoong looked in that striped turtle-neck shirt. And I love that hat, honestly, I want to have that hat." He turned his phone around and basically shoved the screen into San's face. San stumbled a few steps back until he regained balance and adjusted his eyes to the picture in front of him. Not that he was particularly interested.
Jongho was right, the beret definitely looked stylish although San wasn't sure if either of them would be able to pull it off. In contrast, the boy in the picture didn't have a problem with that whatsoever, it fit him perfectly. In fact, San noted, he was quite pretty. Not necessarily his type but pretty nonetheless. Starting to become intrigued by what he had seen his eyes wandered to the blurry person in the front.
He almost choked on his own breath when he laid eyes on familiar pink hair and an outfit he had seen only hours ago. Caught in a bright laugh the blurry visage of his recent internet acquaintance adorned the left side of the idol group's Instagram post. Despite the blurriness San clearly recognized the blue hoody and the black cargo vest that Wooyoung had worn when he had sent him a selfie only hours earlier today. Even more obvious appeared his pink-purple hair and the annoyingly beautiful face San had already become addicted to. Without any doubt, the person in this picture was Wooyoung.
Still not being able to tear his eyes from the familiar boy, San cautiously asked his brother "who is the other guy, the blurry one?"
Jongho lifted his head in surprise. "That's Jung Wooyoung," he answered startled by the older's sudden interest. "He is Ateez' main dancer. And a vocalist and visual."
San's heart skipped a beat. Jung Wooyoung. Why did the sound of that name make his knees buckle?
Everything made sense, though. Wooyoung had told him he was training to be an idol, he had simply never mentioned the exact name of his group. How could he not have found out about him being a member of his brother's favourite K-pop group? Wooyoung's Instagram account flashed swiftly before San's eyes while he was trying hard to remember any specific details about his newly met friend from social media. Coming up empty he run his fingers through his hair, frustrated and still at a loss for words at the unexpected discovery.
"Are you absolutely sure?" San turned to Jongho for complete confirmation and ignored the sceptical look he received as an answer.
"Yes, I am sure, San."
"So this," he hurriedly took out his own phone again and typed for a short time until sexyjwooyoung's Instagram account was brightly displayed on the screen, "this is the same person as the Wooyoung you were just talking about, right?"
Jongho knitted his eyebrows in confusion but leaned forward to inspect the pictures on San's phone. All the while San was intently watching his reactions, his pulse going through the roof. Jongho's eyes slowly widened. It was apparent that he had recognized the purple haired idol and now sincerely struggled to believe that this was indeed Jung Wooyoung's private account.
"Where did you get this account from? I've never seen most of these pictures," his mouth slightly agape and still staring at San's phone, he finally spoke up.
San's lips parted in surprised amazement. "It's really him, isn't it?" Slightly thrown off by the undeniable realization that the stranger he had been texting was actually on a promising path to fame and success in the Korean music industry and member of the same group he had been cursing for a week because his brother wouldn't shut up about them, he felt an odd sense of pride for the boy he had never met.
Jongho slapped his upper arm painfully hard and woke him from his train of thoughts. "What kind of account is this, San? Because no Atiny has ever even mentioned anything about this!"
"Oh, well..." San awkwardly scratched his neck, not sure if he was in a position to share an idol's private account with a fan, but only to shake his head in irritation seconds later. Jongho was his brother and by far the most responsible person he knew, why was he even hesitating? He trusted him. When he finally opened his mouth to answer, Jongho hung on his every word.
