Dirt. Blood. Weighs. Screams.
Addy flew up in the hospital bed. It was all too much. The pain she felt as she came up made her gasp for breath. She remembered IceBreaker was dead. She sat back and started crying. Her heart rate when up and the nurse came in
Addy looked at her. Her nose was scrunched and her eyes puffy. "what happened?" she asked quietly. The nurse looked sympathetic. "You were in an accident. She broke a few ribs." Addy groaned. "frick " she muttered.
A week went by and Addy was released. She was prescribed a few pain medicines but was free to ride. Ashton was waiting for her in the hall of the barn.
The practice jockey was one of the nicest guys she had ever met. He was also an incredible Rider. She never had understood why he never raced the horses.
"Hey " he said, sheepishly smiling. "Hi. " Addy said, punching his shoulder. "so Daniel was looking at this colt. Do you want to see him?" Addy sighed, not looking up. "sure I guess" The two started walking towards Ashton's truck, which was super clean all the time.
After arriving at the stable where the colt was stalled, Addy stepped out. Immediately she was treated by Ashton opening the door for her. "thanks " she said as they started toward the barn in silence. They were met by a trainer that Ashton knew well. "hey Kyle!" he shook hands with the man. "hey Ashton. I assume you're the one and only Addy? You're pretty famous in the United States. You're a pretty good jockey." Addy only smiled and Kyle took the hint to shut up.
They arrived at the colts Stall. He was standing quietly in the back, his ears dropping lazily. He didn't look like a racehorse. "This is the Colt. He doesn't have a race name yet but his dam is the one and only black caviar and his Sire is King Of Pride" Kyle explained. Addy didn't reply but simply stepped into the colts stall. She felt along his neck and legs. She felt along his back and his hind end. She then looked at his eyes. "I like him. He's calm. Is he fast?" she said, getting straight to the point. Ashton didn't say anything. "Let's take him the the paddock and see." Kyle said, hooking the lead rope to the colts halter. Addy and Ashton followed.
The three reached the pasture and Kyle unhooked the colt and shut the gate. He flicked the rope and the colt took a step forward. He didn't move for a moment before bolting forward. He bucked up and moved powerfully along the railing of the paddock. His muscles rippled and his shiny bay coat stuck out to her. He came back and slid to a stop right in front of Addy.
It only took that for Addy to decide. She wanted that colt.
