Jaden said nothing as Jacob sat next to her in the small carriage taking them back to her village, there was nothing more she could say. After he had given into the rage. He had barely spoken to her, even after most of her injuries had healed. When finally he did it was only to inform her that he was refusing her offer and sending her back to the village and that Jacob would be going with her. That same night she had pleaded with him to reconsider that she would do anything he asked to stay but he would not budge. With a defeated sigh Jaden laid her head back and closed her eyes trying her best to block out everything that had happened over the last few months , if she was going to survive the days to come she would need a clear and level head now was not the time for distractions. Weve arrived lass Jacobs old voice was still kind but she could also hear the growing concern there .even as his grip was reassuring as he helped her from the carriage; glancing at the clouded sky she was thankful for the nights darkness. There would be no warm welcome from the villagers come the dawn when they learned of her return. Thank you Jacob, come we must hurry and get off the streets. She whispered as she took his hand and silently led him to her small two room hut on the outskirts of the village only to sink to her knees and sob only charred remains remained of the hut she had called home for so long. Jacob cursed and swore against everything under the stars; glancing around their surroundings over and over come lass we cant stay here tis not safe.do you know a safe place we can go for the night? his voice is strained now as he helps Jaden to her feet and pulls her towards the safety of the shadowed tree line. Jaden could only shake her head no as she sunk once again to the ground leaning against the closest tree and closed her eyes. Neither of them got much sleep that night, it had been a long time since either had slept on the cold ground. Jacob was the first to awaken at the sounds of voices coming from the area of the burned hut and quickly placed a hand over Jadens mouth and motioning her to remain silent an still. Her eyes soon turned to panic as she began to recognized the different voices yelling back and forth to spread out and search the surrounding areas. Pulling Jacob closer she whispered as low as she could Jacob you must promise me that whatever happens here you will do everything in your power to return to Lord Jaspers and warn him of the danger. My fate is already sealed; it was from the moment I left for his estate. Promise me you wilt not fight on my behalf, I cannot bear to see you harmed on my account Jacob. Please promise me. There were tears running down her cheeks as she searched his face. She could see him doing his best to control his warring emotions aye lass as much as it pains me I wilt give ye my promise that I will do what I can to do as ye asks.. But dont think that I or Darren will not fight for ye and ye's safety fer yes be thinkin wrong. Jacobs accent made her smile in spite of everything happening; the old man never spoke unless he had something important to say. So his accent was not always so clear as now. Jacob whatever happens you cannot let Lord Jaspers interfere, or all hope for tomorrow is surely lost. She added before slowly getting to her feet with a new level of determination, no more fear; no tears or trembling. To Jacobs eyes it was if she had been suddenly replaced by a completely different lass all together.

Here! Here the demons whore is here! Hurry! Hurry! Bring the ropes! someone kept yelling as the search party quickly closed in around her, there would be no escaping she didnt even try to. Jacob waited until he was sure the coast was clear before very carefully making his way back towards Darrens estate. It was well after midnight when he met Gillis and his men on the road, though his breathing was heavy labored Jacob did his best to tell them what had accrued but leaving out a few key details meant for the Lords ears only.

Ayla Ra watched from the safety of a half covered window with a cruel smile as her twin sister was half drug through the village all the way to the square where a tall wooden pole had been driven into the ground and countless bundles of twigs and straw had been piled around it, there was no delusions of what it was placed there for. Someone was going to burn!

Her smile quickly turned to a sickening snarl when she caught sight of Jadens face. There was no fear no tears no pleas for mercy as she had expected but a mixture of determination, calmness and peacefulness
