"Ready everyone? We'll sing Happy Birthday on three. One. Two. THREE!"
Happy Birthday to you. Happy Birthday to you. Happy Birthday dear Mia. Happy Birthday to you.
"Aww, thank you everyone," Mia said while on the verge of tears. "Go ahead and make your wish Mia," her mother urged. "Yeah, and make it something good. Not like last year where you wished for socks," her best friend Amy screamed. Mia laughed, amused at how her friend never fails to amuse her. "Hey, don't knock my socks wish! It came true didn't it?"
Mia closed her eyes and blew out the candles. Everyone around her cheered and wished her a happy birthday again. She turned to her best friend Amy, who was eager to find out what she wished for. They walked to the bathroom so no one would hear them.
"So, what'd you wish for?" "I can't tell you or else it won't come true," Mia replied. "Oh come on," Amy frustratedly threw her arms in the air. "Are you serious? You're 17 now. I thought we've gotten past the whole secret wish thing. I thought we were best friends. You can't just keep secrets from your best friend like that!" Mia shook her head at Amy's dramatic nature. Amy was always a bit theatrical in Mia's opinion. "I'm sorry best friend but I'm not telling you anything," she replied smugly.
Amy looked at Mia in disbelief. "Fine," she replied. "That just means that it has something to do with Luke and, judging from the look on your face right now, I'd say I'm absolutely right." Mia was shocked at her friends accusation. "Just because I don't want to tell you doesn't mean it's about Luke." Amy raised an eyebrow at Mia. "Or maybe it does. He is your boyfriend after all. I'm sure you made some dirty wish that you know you're going to hell for later." Now it was Mia's turn to look at Amy in disbelief. Amy could make the most far-fetched accusations sometimes. It amazes her how crazy the accusations can get sometimes. "I didn't make a dirty wish, this time. And, for the record, my wish has nothing to do with Luke." "Sure it doesn't," Amy replied with a smirk. "I'm sure you didn't wish for Luke to sweep you off you feet and take you home with him. Then, have a steamy make out session leading to him kissing your neck and-" "No, no, no! Let's not go there! I'll tell you what I wished for just to stop your ridiculous accusations!" Amy smiled smugly, knowing that she won, as always.
Mia took a deep breath and told her friend "I wished to have the biggest adventure that I'll ever have in my life. One that's so insane that it will change me forever. I want to be a new person when I walk away from it. Stronger, wiser, and better overall." Amy smirked at her friend's and replied "Hmmm, be careful what you wish for Miss Mia. Anything can happen and you just might get it..."

A bright light caused me to peel my eyes open. I lifted my head off the cold, uncomfortable, concrete floor that I was sleeping on and sat up to see where the light was coming from. The early morning sunlight was beginning to break through a small window above my head and I assumed that is what woke me up.
I looked around a little, quickly realizing that I didn't recognize this place and had no idea how I ended up here in the first place. I tried to stand up, but failed miserably because something was holding me down. I could feel the ice cold metal around my wrists and realized I was handcuffed to a pole. I glanced at the floor around me, hoping to find a key, but there was none.
I continued to look around, digesting the appearance of my surroundings. There room was not very big at all. It was freezing and filthy. The floor was damp and froze my butt. There was a staircase leading up to a door at the end of the room, which led me to believe I was in a basement of some sorts. A sharp pain shot through my skull and it was so bad I wanted to cry. I tried to open my mouth and scream in hopes of catching someone's attention, but my throat was too sore and swollen to be of any help. Where am I?
Suddenly, the door that the stairs led to opened and I could see a shadowed figure descending the staircase and approach me. What the hell have I gotten myself into?...
