The smell of gas and smoke filled my nose as I awoke. All I could see was red, orange, and gray. I couldn't think much. All I could do was duck low and try to find my way out. I was fairly new to this house. It was the third time in the month Papa had moved us to a different state. I had thought about what Oklahoma would be like. I really had no clue. Grassy grasslands? Mountains? Snow? I had never experienced the winter weather. Anyway, since I was very new to the place, a fire escape plan hadn't been established. It was starting to get hard to breath.

"Anastasia, where are you?" his rough voice coming from somewhere close by. I could tell he was having a hard time breathing, too. "Here, papa, I'm over here," my voice is probably to soft for him to hear, so I just keep moving. "Papa." I took a deep breath and started moving again. I could feel the smoke seeping into my body. I wasn't going to survive.

Just keep moving, Anastasia, you've got nothing to lose.

I heard the sirens and the sprinkles of water against the walls. The firemen were here. I followed my ears which led me to a door. A locked door. I banged hard with all the strength left in me. I screamed "Papa, Mama, in here!" I knew I was weak and probably couldn't move, but I tried to get up against the wall and unlock it. There were no nearby windows and I couldn't breath. I lost my strength. I fell to the ground. "Anastasia!" I heard his voice again. It was farther away. He had made it out.

Anastasia, you can fall asleep now.

I accepted it. I closed my eyes. I gave up. I knew I was badly burned. I tried to stop my own heartbeat. Slowing it down.

thump thump thump thump thump thump
thump...thump...thump...thump...thump...
thump...........thump.............thump.........
thump...................................................

A knew repeating sound came into hearing.

beep beep.... beep beep...........

"She's hardly breathing," a female voice said, "we need to do it now." Everything was blurry. It was giving me a headache. A pain.

"Mama?" I questioned. It was probably not her. Suddenly, I felt a deep sting in my upper right shoulder. I'm sure something was put inside of me, but I can't remember much else about that night.
